Monsoon arrives earlier than usual in India, breaking 108 year record - Indian meteorologists say it is "diffucult" to link this to climate change

The early arrival of the monsoon in Delhi, breaking a 108-year old record, has puzzled weather officials. It punches a hole in the entrenched theory - the hotter it gets, the better the chances of the monsoon.

But this year, the north has been cooler by almost 1.5 degrees centigrade. Yet, it took merely 12 days, instead of 30, for the monsoon to cover most of India.

...

"This early onset has really surprised us and we need to do some data analysis as to why it has happened and at present, we do not have much knowledge as to why it has happened,'' said Dr M Rajeevan, Director, National Climate Centre, IMD, Pune.

''We need to do more studies on the monsoon, but it is very difficult to link this situation to climate change,'' he added.

...

Scientists are reluctant to directly link any freak weather to climate change. However the UN panel on climate change maintains that increasingly unpredictable weather is a fallout of global warming.

the monsoon in india still amazes me

i think by now it is over

hot yes and believe me, i could never withstand that many months of JUST RAIN

if i am in morocco 3 months...sometimes i dont see a drop of it...I AM A HAPPY CAMPER!!!

The "just rain" part mainly occurs in Meghalaya and Assam. I guess then if you plan to visit India, you'd best stick to Rajasthan and Gujarat--where even in monsoon season, you get only little.
