Eh, last I checked "pig" and "hog" are the same animal!
Welcome to Swine 101:

The term swine can also refer to the pig family in a general way, and "pig" can be used in referencing young animals. "Hog" will generally refer to animals at or nearing market weight or finished for market. The term "barrow" means a neutered male, and "gilt" means a young female. Pigs are also referred to as growing pigs (40 - 125 pounds), and finishing pigs, weighing from 125 pounds to market weight--usually about 230 pounds.

True in Americanese--not Brit or Canuck English, where the three terms (swine, pig, hog) are used almost interchangeably.

I stand corrected.

Speaking as a British-born naturalized Canadian.... No, Cherry's wrong and you are right, WideAwake. Hogs are >120 lbs and are ready for market. Pigs are <120 lbs and are not ready for market. That's why Toronto's nickname is hogtown. It goes back to the 1800's when Toronto had the 2nd largest pork processing plant in North America.

As a dual Can-Am (both by naturalisation), I was not offended at all (of course, it has to do with my being raised in AB--we generally don't like ON very much)
