AOS Approved!!!

Hi,

This morning we went to our interview in downtown Chicago, and my AOS was approved! :dance:

Maybe this could help someone, so here's our experience:

We were just requested the NOA letter to get into the building. Once in the office, we submitted the NOA at the window, and we were told to sit down and wait. The place was packed, but we just waited around 20-30 minutes until we were called and sent to another floor. We just showed the NOA at the window and, again, we were told to sit and wait. Half hour later or so we were called.

The officer was very nice and kind. We took an oath, we sat down, he asked me for my passport (my I-94 was in it) and my husband for his ID and he went over our files.

He asked me my birthday, birth of country and my parent's names. He also requested my AP. Then he asked some of the questions on the I-485 form and some more: Have you ever come to the US without a visa? "no", Overstay? "no", Have you ever use fake documents to come? "no, I have always come on a visa with my passport" . He asked if I have family here in the US. I replied, "yes, second cousins in LA". Have you work in the US? "No, I haven't gotten my EAD" and he got a quick when I asked if I could ask for a refund on my employment authorization since I never received it. He replied with a big smile: "you can always ask... what they are going to reply it's another thing". (I guess I knew the answer in advance, but just wanted to confirm if there was a way to get our money back for something that was not provided as expected, oh well... )

Then he asked if I had have my medical and I replied that I had it in my country for the K-1 Visa and it was delivered in a sealed envelope at the POE when I entered US on that visa. I explained that the only thing they didn't take was my X-ray, and I had it there with me, but he didn't want it either (he say we could keep it as "souvenir") He reviewed the files and found my vaccination sheet, I told him that I had a copy the doctor gave me in my country.

Then he asked the same initial questions to my hubby (b-day). He asked him how we met and where he works. He asked for our 2005 joint tax forms (we gave a photocopy). We had all kind of stuff, like lease agreements, credit cards statements with both of our names, etc, but they were not requested. We also brought pics from our wedding, honney moon, etc, and since he didn't ask, we didn't need to show.

He told us that I was approved and went through my information online to verify everything was OK so I recieve my GC with my married name in two weeks or so. He returned my passport (and my social security card and my hubby's ID), he gave us a good advice: The SS office was just across the street, so we could have my SS card with my married name and "valid for employment" on it. We headed there after living that building and had it done. He told us that we had with us everything I needed to do the changes! Very nice of him and very much appreciated. :star:

That's it! Two birds from one stone! (or should I said, two birds from one very expensive parking lot fee?) :wacko:

I just had to filled the form for the changes on my SS card and wait for half hour or so until they called us and we showed my passport (with the new stamp) and marriage certificate. They told me that since I just got the stamp on the passport it will take few days more until their office receives the updated information (on the system), but I should receive my new SS card in two weeks!! :dance:
