How many terrorist attacks before 9/11, six?

At least one. The first world trade center bombing.

I think the operative phrase there is "isolated incidents".

By that logic then so was 9/11. You really think we can afford very many "isolated incidents"?

Well that's changing the subject quite a bit isn't it...

To recap - the contention in the OP article is that Bush has made the world a safer place - however the author of the article doesn't exactly make an argument as to why that is (other than the appointment of David Petraeus in Iraq). It also seems to contradict previously published Intelligence assessments to the contrary.

Secondly, the counterpoint raised about "how many terrorist attacks since 9/11?" belies the simple fact that there wasn't a exactly a great deal of terrorism on US soil in the years prior to 9/11. So that doesn't really prove anything either.

However - you do have increasing instability in Europe with train bombings, and a rising trend of sectarianism in countries like France and the UK which have fairly large muslim populations.

If we're talking a "safer world", it doesn't seem to go very far beyond the borders of the US...

We also can't afford creating the justification for future incidents.

*justification is always relative to the justifier I suppose*

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

So I guess we're all agreed then. Based on this article and the counter-arguments presented here - Bush has NOT made the world a safer place.

No, only you and those that are like minded agree.

None of the arguments presented in the OP article or in the thread so far prove the assertion that Bush has made the world as safer place, but you are of course free to believe what you want to believe.
