We got our visa!

I had my interview yesterday in Singapore and am so happy to report to that we got our visa!

Here's my short report which may be interesting for members from Singapore (I know, there are not many). Singapore recently switched to appointment processing. In the past you would drop off docs at 9am and go back at 2pm for the interview and I was pleasantly surprised when they conducted the interview simultaneously with document submission. I got there at 9am, was #3 on the list, got called at about 9.30, had the "first" interview, was asked to wait for my name to be called again, and then had a "second" interview with another officer. The second officer gave the visa approval and sent me back to the first officer to get the date for the collection, which is 7 days from the interview date. I left the embassy at about 10.30am.

The only slight hiccup I had was with my police certificate. I submitted 2 certs and one of them had been obtained in Sept 2007. The first officer told me that the certificate should not be more than 6 months old but of course, with all the wonderful advice I had picked up on Visajourney, I knew this was not the case. I was aware that some countries issue police certs with a validity of 6 months, but not the two jurisdictions where I got my certs from. So I very respectfully pointed out to the officer that the NVC's website specifically states that the police cert should not be more than 12 months old so a Sept cert should be fine. She was not impressed with my in depth knowledge on this subject! But anyways, when I was interviewed by the second officer, he asked me how soon I could leave the country and I said as soon as I got the visa. And he said "I'm going to grant the visa but if for some reason you are unable to enter the US before September you will have to get a fresh police cert" and that was it. Hurray!

I'm flying June 30 and cannot wait to see my husband!!!

It's taken us almost a year from filing and it really would have been significantly shorter in our case if not for delays on our part. But we're not complaining, we are just happy that we finally have the visa. This board has been an incredible source of advice and support. Thanks so much to everyone!!!
