:thumbs: Thanks for the updates! It will be interesting to see whether people will be required to get TB skin tests here in USA; or if they become standard practice for the medicals abroad. Things keep changing in the immigration process! :yes:

If I read this announcement correctly;

http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/medical_exams_042908.pdf

The new requirements only apply to medical exams conducted after May 1, 2008 (so would exempt those filing now but using medical exams conducted prior to May 1st).

John

My fiance had his medical exam on May 9 - so does that mean that we should get him the skin test. Technically the instructions say that the K1 medical is good for a year - shouldn't that supercede this new requirement??

"Luck of the draw!" I've seen where peeps got away without submitting anything showing vaccinations. Also got by with only submitting the DS 3025.

Obviously it's best to go by the book {if you and the civil surgeon can figure it out!}.

Most civil surgeons don't seem to be up to date on USCIS updates. Can't really blame them as the one we went to had a thriving "normal" practice and was doing I-693As basically as a community service. Only charged $22.

If the new TB, HIV and syplilis test are for real I imagine Dr. Arnolds "mail order" I-693As won't be happening anymore.

Edit! I guess you could have the test elsewhere and send the results to Dr. Arnold.

My guess would be that a CS in the US would assume that if you had a medical overseas within the last year that a TB skin test was completed. His instructions (if a medical has been done in the past 12 months) is to verify your identity then fill in part 2, vaccination portion only, and part 5. The potential issue will be at USCIS if they review the medical package submitted at POE and a TB test has not been completed.

In early April, when I tried completing required vaccination in US before filing AOS, a horrible CS forced me to take HIV blood test and TB skin test. (I had K-1 medical done in Feb, including X-ray and HIV test.) Well, at that time, I didn't know CDC/USCIS changed requirement, but in April, I definitely didn't need to get them. From May 1st, TB skin test became requirement, though. A new technical instruction for CS is available on CDC web site now.

My stupid "partly updated" CS gave me old I-693 :huh: (that's OK, it was April....) and it costed $300.... :angry: Hope you can find a "well updated" CS, or you can bring document from rin and john posted link to convince him/her.

Is there a time requirement if I have him go get the TB test done? He doesn't plan on arriving in the US until late September. I was reading other posts and people were saying that the tests needed to be less than a month old. Just trying to get my ducks in a row - I'll just have him do the TB in Australia if possible. He already did the HIV blood test when he did the medical (I'm pretty sure at least).
