My husband has an appointment tomorrow to get his fingerprints done, to send for the RCMP check in Ottawa (will get it sent ASAP)... Has anyone else included a letter asking them for a quicker response, due to Immigration etc.. ??... I just got an email today from Canada Post saying my I-129F was received in Chicago yesterday...so Im already stressing about a possible 4 month wait for the check... I suppose I could ask as nicely as possible if they could speed things up...LOL, it doesnt hurt to ask right...?!

My husband was caught stealing cans of soda when he was a teenager in 1974 (I always thought it was alcohol, but it was a 6 pack of soda!), no jail time...had to pay a fine...

he had a name check done a year ago before he got his passport and nothing showed up..we are getting the prints done just to be on the safe side...because he remembers getting his fingerprints taken...

wish us luck that we get a very understanding person that will help get them back to us quickly!

thanks

There was one VJ'er that included a note asking to be expedited for immigration purposes, seemed to work for them. Somebody mentioned that the commiosionaires inthe greater Toronto area dfo fingerprinting as well, and doesnt take long at all!! http://www.commissionaires.ca/ Contact them and see how long it takes

http://www.fingerprintingservice.com/ same company, just a direct link

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

does anyone know how long the wait is to recieve a finger print criminal records check or police certificate back from RCMP ottawa?

A fingerprint based police certificate is required only if you have a criminal record. If you do not have a criminal record, you can get a named based police certificate from your local RCMP detachment in most of Canada, the Commissionaires in the GTA, or from your local Police Service if the following conditions are met :

1) They use the RCMP CPIC Criminal Database

2) It states that it was based on a CPIC Canada Wide Search.

If you do have a criminal record and you require sending fingerprints to Ottawa, it is currently taking from 8 to 12 weeks to get it back.

Hi :) I'm new around here and haven't started processing anything as we're waiting until after the wedding this summer so I'm just taking piles of notes and preparing. I know you are asked for police clearances from every city in canada that you've lived. What I'm wondering is if I go to my local RMP detachment and get the check done through them and it indicates as you said above that it's based on a CPIC "Canada Wide" search do I still have to go to each city I've lived in to get a local police certificate? I'm trying to avoid at least one long car trip.

Thanks in advance :)

ONE canada wide name search completed by the RCMP, City police, or the Commisionaires will do for every place you have resided in Canada.

NO Criminal record = no fingerprints

If u have ever had a criminal record = fingerprinting = approx 4 months of waiting for them!!

Police background check is a fairly easy document to get. Best of luck

Im replying to my own post!..LOL..just wanted to update and say that we received my husbands RCMP check today (just a plain white piece of paper with the RCMP seal, he has no record...woo hoo!) ...took 10 weeks.. We included a letter explaining why we needed the check done, and asking for it to be done within a 8-10 week timespan..they got it to us right around 10 1/2 weeks.. now if I could just get my NOA2 from VSC!!!...

Good luck to anyone that has to get a FINGERPRINT check...!!

Canadian Police Certificate with Fingerprints:

RE:www.fingerprintingservice.com

There are locations across Canada. Two levels of service: "Ink and Roll" (paper) takes about 12 weeks for Police Certificate results; "Digital Fingerprinting" (more expensive) is taking about 3 weeks currently with improvements expected over time.
