Anyone who's had the HPV vaccine in the US...

...please share your experiences here. I was given the option to have it done in the UK, but didn't want to commit myself to 6 months worth of injections right then that would eat into the time I had to leave the country on K-1. I'm in the US right now, and getting married on Saturday (yay!), and it's probably time I looked into prices and processes for getting my HPV shot. I understand you need only get (and be able to prove you got) the first of the three injections to satisfy AOS initially, but other than that, I don't really know a whole lot. I don't have health insurance yet either - how expensive will it be without insurance/does insurance even cover it? Oh, and I'm in Virginia. Any info anyone has would be great.

Hi, i just had 4 other shots(HPV, MMR, Tdap, Hepa B) here today for $10 dollars. It was my second HPV vaccine( coz it was given in the Philippines when i was there). I intend to get only Tdap vaccine since it wasn't given to me before but the staff told me to get the rest coz they are series of shots. So i had them.

We went to a public clinic in Texas for that. We will schedule to meet a local civil surgeon soon.

By the way, i didn't have insurance too.

I think it's shocking you even need to have a HPV vaccine. I checked with our national heath service here in the UK about the possibilty of them giving me the vaccine (cheaper or for free) and they said they wouldn't as I am too old (I'm 24). The vaccine is designed to be given to 12-13 year olds before they become sexually active. They said giving it too me at my age would not be cost effective and would be next to useless. So I'll end up paying £120 for a vaccine that isn't really going to do anything.

One of my friends in the US (she's a US citizen) told me she was getting the vaccines for free at a public clinic, because she doesn't have insurance. Maybe you can go to the clinics in your area and ask if they do it for free for people without insurance. I have no idea how it works. Maybe they don't do it for new immigrants, who knows, but it's worth giving it a try.

I hear ya - I think it is utterly ridiculous to be honest - I am in the US but havent had the vac yet - I know some people have found it really cheap here so I think the best advice is to shop around your area to find out the best place to go

I am adjusting from F-1 and the civil surgeon never required me to do the HPV vaccine.

It seems to be required for K-1 in their home country, it still boggles my mind. Why require people to do the HPV vaccine when you are in a committed relationship and supposedly already sexually active?
