That was a state poll. 53% of Floridians want to drill. So tell your own people to fukc off.

They polled the fcuking snowbirds.

quite a handfull you have there

Not really. They'd put it on the ballot if they thought there was even a slim chance to pass it. It won't happen. Nobody in Tallahassee is supporting it. Nobody in the populous counties along the coast is supporting it. Won't happen.

when someone explains the tax revenue that will be generated for the state, they might change their mind.

Not when natural beauty is your livelihood. And Floridians are quite aware of that. Besides, real relief is available without drilling.

Really? What would that be? Conservation I will be you will say. Tell me when conservation put one drop of oil in the supply. It didn't. Grab at those straws. I bet you we will be drilling in your back yard soon.

There are obviously two ways to address a supply shortage - if there indeed was one that's causing the high oil prices. We both know that there are other factors at play that have a much larger impact on oil prices than a short supply. Try commodity speculation. That's where you'd find the reason for the majority of the recent price hikes. But let's assume for a second that supply is coming up short. We'd have two way to address such shortage. Either by driving up the supply which cannot be accomplished anytime soon and which most certainly cannot be sustained. Or by driving down demand which is what can be done starting today and which can be sustained. There ain't no straws I am grabbing. I'm just supporting real solutions.

You communists all think the same - we'll be a Third World Nation two months after Obama gets elected.

Other than the voices in your head... tell us what evidence there'd be for such a procedure.

er... better yet, tell us instead what the voices say.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

That poll mentioned in that article - which mentions that 53% (no exactly a great majority and surely within the margin of error) want drilling is really short on details. It doesn't tell us if it was statewide or Tampa or whatever, or if it included likely voters. I've seen other polls which suggest Floridians are against drilling.

What also has not been mentioned is that both Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist (both Republicans) have both been ambivalent to generally against drilling off Flordida's shores. Of course now Charlie Crist (who was more vocally against it than Bush) is flipflopping and saying he thinks it's a good idea because he wants to be McCain's running mate.

Florida is currently one of the top travel destinations in the world and is worth about $60 billion. I'm sure if oil starts contaminating the beaches for that wouldn't be threated. I'm sure the band aid solution for the oil crisis will be worth it.

perhaps to some extent, yes, but if the average homeowner could see their property taxes decrease by $500 a year they'd be more inclined to support offshore oil.

I have heard stories of people registering car in one state, having a home in another, and paying taxes on something else (investments?) in a third to get around paying more taxes.

I have just done a search on craigslist in my area:

used corollas for less than $2000

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/search/ca...000&addTwo=

used civics for less than $2000

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/search/ca...000&addTwo=

used accords for less than $2000

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/search/ca...000&addTwo=

used sentras for less than $2000

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/search/ca...000&addTwo=

In what condition? That is the key.

like I said - I bought my old corolla for $1500. It was in decent shape and required no repairs other than service. Probably better than 99% of the old junkers that you claim they can't afford to fill up any more.

I paid 2g's for my '93 Civic back in December, but have had to spend another 2g's for transmission and front axle. If it holds together for 2 more years, I think I will have saved money in the long run. I'm getting about 35mpg on the highway.

just make sure them missourians don't drill first in kansas... or worse, have a fit when kansians (sp?) drill in kansas, thereby draining the loads of volume that goes under kansas soil...

A lot has changed since 1969. Do you know that after hurricane Katrina that not one drop of oil was spilled despite the total destruction of many rigs?

Wrong again. The article you originally quoted said, "no shoreline or wildlife impacts were noted". That doesn't mean no oil was spilled, it just means that none of it reached land, not quite the same thing.

Google this date: March 24, 1989.

Remember: All it takes is one human error, and Florida tourism is f.o.o.k.e.d.
