Hello everyone,

I plan on requesting tax transcripts for my fiance to bring to his interview, because I dont' have copies of my tax returns. Recently I requested a tax transcript for my college financial aid, and it looked like someone just printed it off on a regular printer and looked very "unofficial." Is this what everyone's looks like? Will the embassy trust this, even though it's not very official looking?

Thanks!

Best if you contact the IRS and use their 800 number, ask for your tax trancripts and they will mail them to you within about 7 business days, and they look very official. This is probably what you are wanting. Good luck.

I called the 800 number and did exactly that. What I receive is rather 'unofficial' looking.. it looks like a poor quality photocopy that could have been made 20 years ago from one of the nickle photo copy machines.

Hey caityrose, I called them on Friday or Saturday night and just got a bunch of them in the mail today. I think I hit a few too many buttons, because I ended up getting 6 or 7 envelopes of transcripts and something else (I haven't gotten a chance to look at them yet), but anyway, just wanted to let you know that when you finally get through, it'll only take a few days for them to arrive.

So- did you actually get through and talk to a real person? Or did you somehow request them without talking to somebody?? Just wondering :)

I faxed my request in and the transcripts arrived in a few days. The request form is short and the fax number is in the instruction part. They look unofficial as described above.

They did not send 2007 tax year, but three pages of generic responses where they could check off what they wanted to tell you. My one checked item said that 2007 transcript would not be available until November 2008.

I'm curious if anybody has received a 2007 transcript. My return was rather long and complicated, so it could be in the IRS "look at this later" pile. Did anybody with a simple return get a 2007 transcript returned to them?

Yes- I did. I recently requested one because it was needed for my Financial Aid application for school and it came in about 7 days.

It was an automated service. It's pretty easy and at a certain prompt, you punch in your SSN, and at another prompt, you punch in the number of your street address (like 23 Random Road, you punch "23"), and then you punch in the tax year and it asks if you want a tax transcript and/or some other form. I ended up hitting both options, whatever they were (transcript + __other form__), and then it asks if you want another year, hit that. Have you tried it out again?
