Hotel rooms in Jordan

hehe well we have it solved anyways. When we went in July, he had the hotel booked by the time I arrived in Amman. He met me at the airport and he got the hotel as he already knew about it as he had stayed there before. It was a cheap one...maybe $30 a night or something. It was nice except two tings. The shower was kinda scarey so I washed myself in the sink. And the beds...well, let's just say married people dont wanna sleep in two seperate twin beds after being away from each other for 8 months, LOL So...luggage on one bed, me and him smashed into the other, LOL (se you can improvise anything)

On the way out...omg that was maybe the craziest time of looking for a hotel anywhere I've been!!! Very hot n Amman in middle of July. (it was in old Amman) We got to Amman in the middle of the afternoon and we wanted to see if we can find a cheaper hotel than we had before. So he led the way and I followed. Keep in mind, my husband does not understand the value of money. I've never in my life seen a man who wants to get a motel for less than $30 a night who wants furnishings such as air conditioning with an elevator!!!! Habibi mejnoona!!!!!!!

It was funny because one place we went to had air conditioning and it even advertised air conditioning on the sign but did not etll us how much it costed. I told habibi something's up with that and it looks too good to be true. We got in there (no elevator much to my husband's dismay but at this point he was thankful to have air conditoning because it was hot). But guess what? It had air conditioning, a nice kitchenette in the lobby area, and the men even said salam to me when I was a woman so I guess tehy were polite.....BUT IT DID NOT HAVE A SHOWER:) lol My husband came out from talking to the guy with a strangest look on his face and all I could say was "See I told you so! There was a catch to having taht air conditining advertised...." lol

We finally found a motel that he agreed to. It was actually the last one we looked at on the way back to the one we had originally picked on the way in. It was decent and really even better than the original one. I did not freak out at the sight of the shower:) The beds were still double bed:(((((((( But once again, we pushed the beds together:)))))

hehehe so that's my funny hotel story in Jordan. My husband actually makes the stories even funnier because witout him, it would be just me looking for a hotel in a country in a langauge I cannot understand, how boring. No, my husband is very animated. I still to this day cannot believe he thought he was going to get air conditioning with an elevator for less tahn $30 a night!!

Oh but wait. He did. :) The hotel we ended up at had air conditioning AND a rickety old elevator. We had to go one flight of stairs that was small and took an elevator to the other floor. The elevator had a door that was not like a western door, you actually had to open it because it had hinges. And when it went up and opened...it made weird noises:) I'm notmrally afraid of elevators like that but since my husband was there, I wasnt. (and I figure if we got stuck in the elevator we'd be together longer......I've already been stuck on the road with him in New Hampshire why not be stuck on an elevator in Jordan with him too, heh?:) So it gave the hotel a bit of personality I guess. We will most likely stay at that hotel when I get back. And at least in October, we wont have to worry about air conditioning so much it hink.

As for identification, marriage certificate was not needed. My husband and myself brought ours just in case. But in any case, it was not needed. But they did keep our passports til we left though. We were allowed to take them with us if we had to go somewhere but other than that, when we checked back inat the desk, we had to hand them over.

Same in Tunisia.. But you know... (not always but mostly) you get better prices in the small ones that might need to copy or keep your passport or see a marriage license.. We got way nicer rooms in this for maybe 15 dinar a night versus the ones that were 4/5 stars and could be booked online from the states running at 250 dinar a night....

For that... They can keep my passport

I never stayed in a hotel in Jordan, and I am not sure I like the idea of someone keeping my passport. Yikes!

Its only certain hotels. Those foreign owned don't have these requirements.

I like the smaller ones too!! I was too jet lagged/tired to notice the first people at the hotel we stayed at. But the people at the last hotel we stayed at were nice before I left. Only problem is they could not speak English. So if my husband left to take a shower or get food or someth;ing, that made communicating rather interesting if they came kup for room service. My husband loes room service and I can see him becoming very spoiled i the US:) lol Oh yeah I guess teh people at the first hotel wre nice because my husband called them thinking they had food downstairs and they said no. So they offered to go to a restaurant or store or something for us and get some bread and hummus for us. It was like maybe after midnight I think by the time we got back (thanks to the Jordanians losing my luggage for an hour!!:(((( Amman shuts down like Boston, I was very surprosed!!!:(((

I know in some middle eastern countries men and women are not allowed to rent a hotel room together unless they have proof that they are married. My husband says in Jordan this is the case. But will they accept a standard American marriage cert as proof? My husband does not know. And I say they better or I will have a fit cuz I'm not paying for two rooms, no way! And I havent seen him in 8 months...we're getting a room together or there'll be problems;) Has anyone done this before?

The general rule is "money talks" so keep that in mind. Have your papers on hand and have a good trip!
