I have never just "quit" a job without finding a new one first but I think for the first time in my life I am about to. I am both scared and excited.

You see my work, which is a hotel, got held up a few weeks ago during the night shift. And now they want me to work the night shift alone. No thank you! I have always been on days because of my son, and when hired I told them I could only work days.

I have also been unofficially promoted and never really received a decent raise and when I try to do my job, I am micro managed, basically this "sales manager" position is doing the crappy job of just inputting information my boss has already taken down into our computer system. It sucks, and when I try to shine and make executive decisions, I am basically shot down.

Also my manager is only the manager because she slept with the previous GM who recently got fired for sexual harassment. The place is just a circus.

Holy Peyton Place. If a job made me feel uncomfortable to the point where my personal safety was an issue, I'd quit in a heartbeat. Sounds like you are making the right decision to me.

hehehehe that was a great video! Imagine how gratifying THAT felt! I've made that leap into the unknown before as well, Sprailenes. It is scary and at the same time it is empowering. You do not have to work in any place where you feel your safety or your integrity is compromised no matter what anyone says. The next right job will come along, believe in that - and it will.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Dammit! I hate having a conscience!

I slept on the decision and figured it would be better and safer to find a new job before quitting this one. I HATE ME BRAIN!

But I am looking hard. I hate my boss, she's terrible. That whole place is terrible.

And I hate hating my job because I remove myself from what I am doing and I don't put my heart into anything I do.

What's a conscience?

I don't know your boss but I hate her too.

BTW, if you have any problems with your brain just stab it with a q-tip, problem solved. :P

Sprailene....I quit my first job after working for them for 28 years. The multitude of emotions that washed over me was unbelievable.

I don't have a job to go to because of the move. So I'm thankful for EI following me to the US cause otherwise things may be tight.

It's tough when your brain and conscience kick in. I think you are wise in seeking other employment before leaving your current job. Just make sure that your safety is #1.

Aww Sprailenes, I hear you - i've stayed at jobs past their expiry date too, just because I thought I should. I have also been known to quit on the spot when someone asked me to make tea - depends on my mood

Anyway, be safe and I hope you get another position soon

I just gave my resignation to my work yesterday (my interview in on July 15!!, I know jumping the gun on the resignation), I was an absolute mess in my boss's office. I could barely talk I was crying so much. It was really hard to walk in there and hand her that letter but I know its for the best!

Sprailenes - you will decide in your heart what the best decision is. However any time you really don't feel safe or comfortable, leave! Don't stick around because whatever you feel in your gut is usually right! Thats just my two cents!

Well I am going to go in tomorrow and tell them that they can schedule me for evenings but I won't show up. It is not my fault that they are short staffed and when I took the job I told them I wanted days. If its for one week until they find someone else I really don't mind. But my husband makes twice as much as I do and he'd have to leave work early to pick up my son and that just won't fly. Also there are no cameras, no security, and I refuse to be at risk.

Also when I began working there I was told I'd be at the Hampton, and I am at the Best Western more, and have only been at the Hampton for a short period of time. I applied to work at the hampton and I am at the BW. I am supposed to be a sales manager but I am doing the crappy work and I feel I am not allowed to get to know our clients as my manager takes all the calls and just gives me information to put into the systems. It really is shitty.

But yes, will go in tomorrow to tell them the reason I can't work nights and if they want me to work them they can schedule me, but I will not be able to show up.
