Who signs K-2 AOS documents?

I find the instructions a little vague: "If you are under 14 years of age, your parent or guardian may sign your application." Does the use of the word 'may' here indicate the minor child can legally sign the document? If the parent signs, whose name should appear next to the parent's signature, the parent's or the child's?

I completely realize I'm suffering from analysis paralysis on this, but I thought I'd throw this question out there for your consideration. Thanks!
