It wouldn't surprise me that the same tactics can be applied to politics as well. So to a certain demographic, the Obama's are regarded as elitists - out of touch with hard working Americans, while another demographic (probably a more dubious one) identifies the Obama's as too ghetto. All they need are trigger points - a poorly worded statement or something as benign as a husband and wife doing a fist tap.

Emotional appeal is a powerful tool - marketing agents know exactly what they're doing.

This sounds about right to me, and I'm sure it (is, or will be) used on both sides.

Plant that little seed that "terrorist fist bumps" and "baby mommas" are relevant to the candidate, even though it's "made clear" that it's not the views of the company, some people are going to still associate with the candidate what they associate with the words used.

Well presumably you've seen the story that was circulating a while back about Obama not putting his hand on his heart during the national anthem (I believe it was reported originally - and incorrectly - as the pledge of allegiance - and rumours to that effect were being circulated by the O'Reilly show as well as other outlets). Granted the whole thing was silly to begin with - but you'd be surprised how persistent those rumours are.

That lapel pin thing is equally ridiculous - does it really matter what the guy wears? I mean - where did story come from in the first place. It had the smell of someone fishing for a story...

And then there's Obama's wife not being "proud of this country". That ####### has taken on a life entirely of its own - as if any of us haven't said something similar at some point.

Its pretty weak stuff... Obama has flaws - but buying into what are blatant smears is pretty dishonest.

Actually I think Steve is right on this - this ZQT character has nothing to say of any value or substance - so while he/she might be your new best-bud because they're on "your side", following his/her generally insulting and baseless tangents doesn't really serve much of a purpose - except pander to ignorant arseholes who don't want (and more specifically aren't intellectually equipped) to participate in a civilised discussion of actual issues - and who can only score points through making personal jibes against other posters.
