Well, something happened to me today that I had been both hoping for and dreading at the same time.

It was my last day at the law office.

I start a new job on Monday.

I've worked for my boss off and on for ten years. First time I was full time as his Real Estate Specialist for four years; the second time and more recently I was his part-time Office Manager. In between those two periods, I took six years as a stay-at-home mom.

In the last six years I've not gotten a raise. No one in our office has. The business has slowed to a near crawl (he's a real estate attorney and closings are in the tank). He started doing Oil and Gas work about two years ago to keep the money coming in. There were four girls in the office; two others as full time and another part timer. Anybody else would have laid off the two of us who are part time but Rob kept us all on. Many days we sat with nothing to do - as my daytime postings will attest.

Anyway, I've been looking for full-time work since Wes got here almost three years ago. Jobs are scarce in our town and I've had interviews for some really good ones. On four occasions I had interviews for good state, city or county jobs and always came up as the second choice behind someone's family member who beat me out. I've had many other interviews for clerical work - some I would have taken, others I wouldn't.

So Monday I'm going to work for a non-profit mental health clinic as Administrative Assistant to three psychologists in their private billing department. I've always worked in either banking, mortgage banking or the law. Needless to say, I'm scared to death and feeling like I might fail.

It's got me thinking about all sorts of other changes in my life - when I married the first time; all the up and mostly downs of that marriage; the birth of my wonderful son and the great things he's made me proud of; finding and falling in love with Wes; being apart from him and what we went through to be together; selling my home of 28 years to move at age 50 to another house ----

I've got really great friends here on VJ. Just wanted to share with you what's going on with me. To say how glad I am to have had you to prop me up through the last 3.5 years.

And to say what a weird and wonderful family we are. And how that's ok. :)

You of all people are not going to fail! And who knows, you may love this new job and the people you will be working with so much that all the struggling you have gone through in the past will just simply seem like it was a dream.

Best Wishes to you ! ( Don't forget to wear the slutty shoes! ).

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

...is as good as a rest, so they say.

Suffice to say, that once you get settled into your new job you will wonder why you were worried at all. Medical is different to legal, sure, but admin is admin.

Anyway, like everyone, I wish you luck and hope you enjoy working with your new people.

Nice boss you had before - seems like there are still some decent people out there :D

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
