I-134 & I-864A, whats the differance?

I am self employed and cannot show sufficiant income on my tax returns, for support of my fiance in Thailand. I will use my father as my additional income support/sponser. I live elsewhere from him in another US state. He feels the I-864 is the correct form, but I am not sure the differance.

Can anyone help me clear things up?

Thanks so much

For the visa, you each do an I-134. After the marriage, you file to adjust status. At that time you each do an I-864.

Hmm. So you mean my Father and I each do the I-134, and the I-864 is done later when myself and my fiance get married? Sorry, my dad feels sure that the I-864 is the correct form. My single fiance and I will not be living with my Father, so any affect there?

Any clarification is greatly appreciated

Thanks again

Filling in your time line and specifying what visa you are applying for would help a lot.

If you are doing the K1, it's the I-134 just as pushbrk said.

Later on when you apply for AOS, it's the I-864.

Let's Keep the Song Going!!!

For the visa it doesn't matter whether you live together. For AOS, the answer given is for not living with your father. Try not to gloat too much when you tell your father he was wrong or only half right.

Try this link at the US Embassy's Bangkok website. You can always print out the instructions and show your Father that they require the I-134. There are respectful ways of doing it. Father's day is coming up, after all.

Frankly, they would probably accept the I-184 in lieu of the I-134, but I would definitely email the embassy and ask first. Being a parent, I'd much rather submit an I-134 any day rather than the I-184. An I-184 is a legally binding contract with the government for up to ten years and is not to be taken lightly. Yikes! Anything can happen in ten years.

I-864 is for AOS not K1. I134 is for K1, you are right not your father. Good luck.
