Hello!! I came to the USA with a J-1 visa, I already have a waiver for my 2 year home residency requirment. I got my visa for one year. I am originally from Costa Rica. My fiancee is American but we met in Costa Rica, he lived in CR for the last 8 years. We decided to come here to make a change in our routine. He has some family that lives in north carolina so we decided to come be close to them for a while. Our plan was to come here for a year, save some money and then return to Costa Rica. After about 8 months here, my boyfriend asked me to marry him!! After discussing it for a while, we have decided that we want to stay in the USA for a while. We are actually getting married tomorrow!!!!! :) !! So know I have to apply for an adjustment of status. I know that I can be tricky since I came here with a j-1 visa, but when I came I had NO INTENTION whatsoever of staying here and getting married. I can show them record os my car, which I still have back in Costa Rica since I was planning on cominig back in july.. what else can I show as evidence?? Does anyone know an attorney that knows about J-1 visas or just any GOOD immigration attorney in the North Carolina area???

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks again

You may need a lawyer only if you need to deal with a home residency requirement as a condition on the J-1

There is a guide for your situation.

Then you should have no problems, many have just used the guides.

In your situation you most likely will be interviewed for the green-card.
