i am here in NY right now and have been since Jan. We are hoping to be heading back to Lebanon and then Saudi in 4wks tops.

I am completely jealous!!! I hope you love it there!! Beware of the taxi drivers I've heard though

Henia, I've heard the hospitals in KSA are awesome! No men are allowed in the women's area so it's all very private mashallah and it's free or low cost as well. I have a friend who has diabetes who just moved over there last year to take a teaching job. She's a veteran and could never afford her medicine here, and the vet hospital she had to go to was really terrible.... the same week she got to KSA she got to see a doctor and has been on her meds and managing her condition very well walhamdulillah.

Just out of curiousity Jess, did you have your son in the US or KSA? I am curious to hear birthing experiences in MENA.

O, I see so you had your son in NY. Well ... I am sure you were cared for much better in the US then in MENA. And nice I am sure to see your first son! I pray you are reunited with your husband soon!

Jess, sorry to hijack your thread but just a quick reply to Alhamdulillah.

Alhamdulillah: Well, I am sure the KSA hospitals are much better then some other MENA countries ... and yes, true totally private! But I have few friends living in KSA, who have told me the hospitals in Europe are much better. Plus, I guess woud depend on which hospital you went to! So who knows!

Healthcare in general in MENA is free. But sometimes you see why it is free. I know when I was recently (about month ago) hospitalized here in Algeria. I went to a so-called 'top notch hospital' I did receive good care ... doctors and nurses flying around the clock, but the fact that the maternity ward was so cramped, most of the patients were on cots (that they brought with them) on the floor and that you had to bring all of your medical articles yourself ... well, just kinda was a minus in my book. Also did not like the fact, that there was no patient charting ... it was someone came around asking who you were and what medicines you were taking. But this was a public hospital. I have seen some private hospitals that were slightly better, having enough space ... costing around $500 for the whole birth. I myself, am going to give birth at a private clinic run by nuns in Blida, Algeria. From all the clinics I have seen so far, this one is the cleanest.
