Should Men Clean?

In my brother's family his wife is the breadwinner - he is the stay at home Dad and housekeeper. Mind you, she still does the cooking which is probably a smart thing knowing my brother's predilections for food!

I work very part time and Joe works very full time, so it is part of my 'job' to maintain the house and yard. He does the lawn mowing and the weedeating - and any outdoor construction job (we are reclaiming the hill out back by terracing it) and I do everything else with the garden and yard. He likes to cook, so he often cooks on the weekend, and while I know he knows 'how' to clean (the place was always clean when I visited before we were married), he much prefers someone else to do the work. Fortunately, neither of us are ####### about 'white glove' clean so things do get a bit untidy at times - especially over a weekend. Still, I hope he understands that this is part of my contribution to our marriage because I hate housework! When he retires in a few years I expect I will be going back to full time employment - then we will see how things go, because I will expect him to take on the major role in housecleaning. VBG.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I am a martyr, cleaning house is my favorite. Besides i am meticulous so I'd rather clean the house myself than be disappointed with my husband's cleaning. And of course, I want my husband to just relax after his work. Meowwww. :star:

Daniel and I have OCD when it comes to cleaning. Also 2 dogs in the house makes it so imp to clean everyday. Yesterday I mopped, vacuumed and shop vaced the entire house (just coz D's not here).

He's much better at vacuuming. Makes diamond shaped patterns when he does it. He's also better at doing the laundry and mowing. How I miss him!!

yay, a popcorn thread.

I believe if only the man or the woman work to support the family, the other person who stays home should do most or even all the housework. It's only fair. I'd be really p!ssed off if I worked all day long and Charles was home scratching his balls all day.

But then again, it depends on the circumstances. Sometimes the man or woman who stays home didn't choose to do so. They may be temporarily unemployed, or they just immigrated to this country and have no permission to work. Still, even though I wouldn't say their job would be clean the house, why not help the other who will come home tired after a day of work? For me that'll be a selfish behavior.

Now for the ridiculous title of this thread, it should be ''should the spouse that works also do housecleaning?'' But I don't blame you for asking that about only the man, since obviously you expect the man to be the provider and the woman to be the maid like it used to be 200 years ago and like you expect your life to be.
