Should Men Clean?

Guess it depends on what you mean. I'm retired, and do volunteer work. My husband works full time. I'm responsible for the inside domestic chores like cleaning and cooking, laundry etc. He does oil changes on the vehicles, and cuts the grass. I do the grocery shopping because I do the cooking. He does clean up after supper and loads the dishwasher. This is something we talked about, and our likes and dislikes. If I was working full time as well as him, I'm sure the chores would be split up a bit differently.

What do you mean don't men do enough already. Going out to work and bringing home money is important, but are you saying that that's enough in terms of the division of labour within the home? I don't think you need to be told that many women work outside the home, and make better money than their husbands. AND take care of the children and the household as well.

I agree with you Carla, it all depends on the situation. I am home and not working right now so the inside like laudry and cleaning I believe is my responsibility. We both do the grocery shopping because we both cook (drives him nuts to relinquish the kitchen to me and always is in there wanting to help, or take over because he has always done the cooking before I came along). A lot of times the grass is cut for us by the man down the street, I go and help he and his wife out sometimes, but if he doesn't get to it I do it and if I don't finish then hubby will. He works 2 jobs and has for years, but I do go and help him with his second job (construction) sometimes to help get him home quicker at night.

I think everything should be 50/50, too. In most households both work.

I don't need to help with cleaning. The apartment magically cleans itself. Usually on weekends while I'm napping.

If both work, then all cleaning should be shared in my opinion. It's not fair if the man still expects the woman to be the only one who cooks and cleans and does laundry if they both have jobs.

I don't work technically, my work is taking care of the baby and the house while my hubby is at his job. But that doesn't mean every single household thing should only be done by me. Sujeet helps me and actually likes vacuuming and organizing. He also does laundry sometimes out of his own choice(like if there is a pile I wasn't able to get done during the day). I am a very lucky gal.
