I agree with you on most of your views of Obama, but do you think posting the articles here is changing any minds? Unless there are a lot of readers who don't participate whose minds are getting changed. It doesn't seem likely. It seems a lot of the crowd is pro-Obama all the way to November and reading an article from someone who is not for Obama doesn't seem to change their minds.

Same could be said of those who constantly post articles against McCain...do you think you are going to convince someone like Gary or me by reading the article? So what's the point of all the article posting, seriously? Just to make the other person look bad I think, and not about changing minds.

If politics must be discussed, instead it should be pure debate threads IMO. I think once Number 6 said something to that effect. Like, the title would be "your opinion on such-and-such, let's debate". And if people could respectfully debate with each other without labeling the other side, it might be good.

Yes, I can see that work is required for this task but you will probably find that in a purely 'effort put in to results got out' ratio VJ is not really the place to achieve results.

That's the thing... I'd eat my habit if I thought one person's opinion was swayed. It just isn't the case and if people ARE swayed by a political thread in the OT section of an Immigration Message Board, well then they need to get a grip and become informed.

Some of the new troll people are pretty funny. Its the same old stuff we've seen countless times before - but its always interesting to see the depths of a person's self-delusion.

I'm part of the "don't like, don't click" mentality.

There are a core group of people who like to talk about and argue politics, just like there are a core group of people that like to talk about cooking, babies, cats or whatever.

As heated and stupid as those election threads sometimes get, I don't think they are as problematic as the ones on illegal immigration, religion or Israel-Palestine, where I have seen far more shocking things said that are offensive to more people, yet no one suggests they be stopped.
