Hi All,

i know there was another post about getting married without an SSN in Pennsylvania. i just wanted to see if anyone had any information on getting a marriage license in New York. Would it be okay to do so without an SSN... if we didn't want to wait?

The Identification Requirements are as follows:

We accept eight forms of identification for most of the services we provide. Expired identification is not accepted.

Driver License with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)

Non-Driver Identification Card with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)

Learner Permit with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)

Active United States Military Identification Card

Passport

United States Certificate of Naturalization (good for 10 years after date of issue)

United States Alien Registration Card

United States Employment Authorization Card

When they say passport, is my SO's Moroccan passport okay?

And is the Employment Authorization stamp they issue at the airport okay as well?

Thanks for your insight!!

Wow, that's a really limited list of ID for someone who just arrived in the US. I'm sure your fiances visa in the passport should be enough. You might want to specifically ask them about the stamp. The list you provided does say "card", but they might accept the stamp. I know my visa had in typed letters at the bottom left hand corner, "issued to marry US Citizen ##### <-- my husband's name.

Let us know what happens to others can benefit! Best wishes on your wedding day!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Thanks for your help!

Another question to my question: The I-94 is the form he has to fill out in the airport and get stamped at JFK, no?

Also, are there any advantages or disadvantages to getting married before the SSN is issued?

Thanks again!!

And yes, i will definitely post my findings for others to share.
