Dual citizenship

So here's the deal. I was told that you can only be naturalized once. Is this true? Because if it is, that means that I can not become a US citizen, right? Is there any solid information where I can find information on this?

My family and I (parents and siblings) were naturalized as Canadian citizens a long time ago. Now that I've been living as a PR in the US for over 3 years, we started to think about the possibility of filing to become dual. But knowning that I was already naturalized once, what does this mean for me? Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks guys.

Were you a naturalized citizen of the USA and then became a citizen of Canada? Before becoming a Canadian Citizen what country were you a citizen of??

Naturalizing and becoming a citizen of Canada has no effect upon US citizenship, only if you were a US citizen first, then became a citizen of a foreign country and renounced citizenship of the USA would you have a problem becoming a US citizen again.

I was born in the Philippines. Moved to Canada, and became Canadian citizens. Married my hubby who is a US citizen. Now I'm a PR.

Then you will not have a problem naturalizing and becoming a US citizen, and Canada will still consider you a citizen of Canada, so a "Dual Citizen"

thank you. i'm rather hopeful at this moment, but just like any other time when we were about to file for anything, i'm quite a bit nervous. not that i don't believe what you just told me (because i really want to believe that I am eligible), is there a website, perhaps the USCIS site.. would they have this info at all? thanks again though! k, time to cook dinner! =)

you are OK faylen, no problem with your dual citizenship

I agree, nothing to worry about. but I guess you will be a tri citizen. No problems on the US end, and I think what you heard was being naturalized twice in the US, say you were naturalized once, then gave it up by renouncing it, you then would have trouble getting it back.

Just in general, seems like obtaining naturalization and keeping it can be two different stories, a country that you are naturalized in wants you to hang around and pay taxes. Wife's citizenship in Venezuela is being threatened as she was naturalized there, but I used the argument, we own property there and are paying taxes and maybe the white lie that after we make lots of money here, we will move back so she could get her passport renewed. They did not want to renew it, but finally did.

That would put us in a tight spot because even though she was a resident here for four years with USCIS delays, could not get a US passport. Yeah, I sent in full tax returns with our N-400, just to show them how much money she paid in taxes, and not for three years, but for four years. Almost a crime in the amount of taxes she paid and can't even get a US Passport. And not only federal, but state taxes as well. Just sent the headings for the I-751 and that took forever, but the N-400 is flying through if that made a difference.

She could have received a passport from the country she was born in, seems like where you are born makes a huge difference and they will always take you back provided you were a good little boy or girl.

But just reading between the lines on the USCIS, they want you to stay here, work, and pay taxes, how else can you interpret some of these questions?

i've known people with up to 5 citizenships, none taken away until this day.

example, person was born in one country, both parents are from different countries, moved to another country, naturalized there, then the son moved to another country, naturalized there. theres your five.
