Perhaps I'm the only person wondering if an individual suffering from "stress induced paranoia" should be put within 20 miles of enough guns and ammo to equip a small army...

Its seems a bit....

That's my question, and would always be my question with anyone storing that amount of ammo, they have to be suffering from some form of paranoia or other psyche condition which as we all know leads people to behave in unpredictable ways.

lots of people suffer from lots of disorders, and yet we let you two post on the internet, so, what the hell, as long as nobody gets hurt in the process...the guy didn't injure anybody. he was minding his own business on full salary long term disability (a great gig, if you can get it), when some detectives somehow associated him with a few gun theft suspects (how remains unclear, could be just a few exchanged e-mails on a message board like this that is dedicated to gun collecting), and came poking their noses into his life, spooking him.

people have large quantities of ammo because they shoot it in large quantities. many of us have belt fed automatics that eat ammo at an amazing rate. when we see ammo cheap, we buy it by the skid. if we didn't we wouldn't be able to afford to shoot. skid price is about 12-15% or walmart retail. do the math.

google "knob creek" to find a website on which you may see me (the blonde guy with the beard and mischevious twinkle in his eye next to the chinese hotty) and a bunch of guys i know having a good time shooting machine guns. watch the videos and you'll understand why we need a lot of ammo.

luckily, i got transferred to china in 2004, so couldn't get to the shoots to burn up all the ammo i continued to buy even while i was overseas. instead, i sold some of it at a huge profit recently, and re-invested the increase in classic smith and wesson large frame target revolvers. if done right, fooling around in the shooting sports world can be quite lucrative. my collexion now is worth , well, i can't calculate, but i would believe about 4-6X what i paid for it.

think it's a crazy hobby? well i think walking around a carefully manicured lawn in really bad looking shorts with a stick in your hand is crazy. occasionally whacking a ball with the stick is even crazier. not that many golfers can say that their clubs and balls have increased 400-600% in value in the last 5 years either, can they?

Its easy to relativize unconnected things, rendering them meaningless in the process.

Before you know it a guy reading a book in a park, is indistinguishable from a madman who goes on a psychotic shooting rampage on a school campus. Who knew...

We are entering a Second Great Depression.

This will be a time of great upheaval. Much sorrow. Much pain.

The large issues of the day will be swept aside, for we will all be concerned, first and foremost, with our own survival.

So, the question must be asked. When the rioters arrive in YOUR neighborhood, what will you do?

Sorry but americans are already filled with lots of unnecessary fears like Aliens, Zombies, Day of the Dead, Sawman, Reaper, Earthquake, Unknown Diseases, Hillbillies starting kill all creating a group, vampire neibor ................. I am a ad conceptualiser............. you ask me and i will give you the most creepiest idea to get afraid.

Live free without fear and stop seeing the saw 1,2 stuff ...thats my foremost advice and if the rioters at all arrive you have to be preinformed to escape...if they are at at all there to kill you. Thats why people here shd read whats happening in other countries and how they combat. In India we 1stly cannot think of anything like that, and if even anything like that happens my neibors are like my mom,dad & brothers. They wd create a group and stop it before it comes to me. So no one wd sit inside. The great idea of 'My House' , 'Me' is my kingdom & lack of interaction principles amongst neibors prevailing in USA has to be changed or it will hit back when things like Rioters occur.

BUt i like the idea "Lock the gate and turn up the stereo loud "

BUt a great topic to talk on for social awareness... Thanks A J .

Yeah I remember how the neighborhood was protected from rioters back during the post-Babri days. I was there. But that's how it's done in India. America doesn't work like that.

If it was up to me, I would have you psyche assessed, you appear to have anger issues, you have the traits of a bully and an over exaggerated sense of self not to mention a lack of coherence when putting a train of thought down on paper. Any wonder that many people think the laws pertaining to who is allowed to own guns are lax?

Black powder usage is always an issue for me. I need to receive it by the case just to keep from going broke by purchasing a few pounds at a time. On a good weekend shooting in "blanket prize matches" or simply trying new load combinations, I can easily burn through 3-4 pounds of powder. (average number of loaded rounds/one pound of BP is 85 for my .45-2.4)

Yeah, I'm real scary when I run around armed with a dozen Jane Austen novels.

Actually, that might be scary, she didn't write quite that many...

Sweetheart, you just don't like the idea that someone exists somewhere out there that is not exactly like you. You also don't like the idea that someone exists who is capable of enacting more power than you trust yourself with. These dislikes are a sign of retarded emotional development. You have the emotional maturity of an adolescent, and i'm only posting this response with such frankness because you need to hear it. Can't have the whole world on your own terms? Scream a little louder.

Freud said that fear of guns is a sign of sexual and emotional immaturity. He was speaking about individual psychology, so did not factor in sociological agendas such as those which are prevalent in the media today, and in certain segments of our government. Government and media both benefit from a passive, obedient populace. Gun ownership is a thorn in their side, because it is an empowering experience.

Many people today will tell you that they are afraid of guns. Truth is, the majority of them are just uneducated or mis-educated. Take them to the range for an afternoon and teach them hoow to use a gun like a tool, and that the gun is subject to their will, and they fall in love with the idea. Done this many times (at my own expense) with about an 80% positive response, and otherwise ambivalence.

Honestly, why do I bother discussing this with you? It's because I believe that with the right education, you could be liberated from the bonds of fear. With the right experience, you could make your own judgement, rather than just repeat the pap that the media has fed you for years. If I lived close to you, I would even invite you over for a day in the "front 40" at my place, in which you could learn by experience that a gun is nothing more than a tool, just like a hammer, or a saw. The result of it's use is entirely within the control of it's user. The user has the power, not the gun.
