I have a co-worker his father almost went through the race riots. His neighborhood was ethnic Italian. Most of the owners were 1st generation and almost all saw action in WWII. They all understood there were NO cops around at all. They went down the end of the street blocked it off and waited. about 40-50 men . ALL armed and they had one goal ... to protect their homes, wives and children. The riots stopped 2 blocks away. They believe to this day that a few of the rioters checked the group out and decided it was easier to burn out a different neighborhood. These men were different than the liberals we have today. They were just as willing to die to protect their own homes as die for their country. You walk through that neighborhood today and talk to the old timers.....They all have a few guns in their homes. They all understand one thing. There are times when the government will not be there to help you. It is just you and your neighbors.

I've heard lots of stories like this. Many of them don't end like that, though. Lots of old ethnic neighborhoods that were destroyed in the 60s. It could happen again.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Materialist imperialists. :jest:

It's one thing to protect your personal property but not if it means putting yours and your family's lives at risk doing so. What a sad event it would be to manage to keep people from destroying your home, but losing a child or your wife in the process. I'd rather get my family out to safety than risk losing them....they aren't replaceable.

Actually, if I'm reading charles et al correctly, I believe they're saying they can protect their property and their family. Wussies like you and I, upon seeing the rioters from our 2nd floor windows, will frantically start reading our insurance documents. Real men like charles - will go get their 12 gauge, whatever that is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-gauge_shotgun

a 12 gauge shotgun, loaded with double aught buck = which contains 9 pellets roughly 8.4mm (.33 inch) in diameter, each comparable to a .38 Special bullet in damage potential.

(imo the above is overstating the power of 00 buck - i'd compare it more to 9 x .32 rounds at the same time.

That is the question. How do you stave off an angry mob from destroying your home? There's really nothing you can do if the numbers are large. Best to get out of the home and try to leave unnoticed.

:secret: claymores

Worked pretty well for Will Smith in that Legend movie.

What p!$$es me off about this thread is the general concensus is "I'd leave my home and all my possessions behind and let an angry mob of law-breaking people destroy my life." What kind of society have we become? Why would we ever allow people to break the law and break our stuff at the same time?

Have we come to the point where "their feelings" are more important than our Rights?

even more interesting, how did we wind up with so many that are unaware how a 12 gauge can break up riots?

Hmmm...well I don't have a gun and I don't own a home. I don't have many possessions to protect. Just gives me a good excuse to move to Canada!

As long as no one wins the Stanly Cup you should be fine. Judging by the results since 1992-1993 you will be.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Hey look the 'Custer' mentality is alive and kicking! Good job we all learn from history isn't it?

As for what has society become - perhaps you can point me to this 'golden age' when people always did the 'right thing'?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Its a feel-good fantasy to justify young people having "old-git" opinions.

Nice. I've seen adds for those.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

You are failing to see a parallel between a small armed force standing up to a massive, slightly less well armed force? I guess your military brain is having a little bit of a meltdown. That's 'if' the 'mob' is less well armed...getting overwhelmed is not an unusual scenario. Those that cut and run and live to fight another day are not necessarily cowards or idiots.

i'm failing to see how custer became an example due to:

- custer went looking for trouble

- custer thought he had superiority in numbers

- custer split his forces.

- he got his azz handed to him due to a lack of scouting.

not exactly a good history choice for what you are talking about, is it? would you care to try to find a better example?

yeah, i'm a former member of the 7th cav, btw ;)

You mean like the Rondney King riots is Los Angeles? The p#ssy LAPD called a "Code 4, I am leaving" when the crowds became too big for them to handle. The Korean community armed themselves and protected their livelyhood. Later, the city tried to discipline the business owners, stating, "It is not the job of the citizen to protect his property."
