Good day all,

I went to SSA office to apply for a new SS card with my name change adding my husbands last name. I was on line waiting and when my turn came, I was told that I have to have an original certified marriage license together with my EAD. I wnt to court right away and got a new certified copy of my marriage license.

I went back to the SSA, this time everything was in order BUT the guy said it looks like the USCIS did not post your new EAD in the system that is why I can not see it. (I guess he was checking electronically to see if the EAD is authentic or something like that) He said because of that, the new card will take about 2 weeks to be issued !!! :bonk: Anyways, I told him that I have applied for many jobs and might be called for an interview, can I use the old SS card until the new one arrives. He replied that he will have to keep the old SS card, which makes me wonder WHY? and what guarantee that they will destroy it or it will be mis-used ....

Anyone has similar experience?

Thanks

When I changed my SSN card to married named it took 2 weeks to come in. My SSN card was also kept but I recieved a printed reciept with my SSN number on it to use till my new card came in.

Well they gave me a print out which states the old name with the same number. He told me that he can not confirm my EAD card with USCIS, and that they did not update their online database. It usually takes 2 weeks to get a new card.

I already had a SS card with the unmarried name. I was concerned when he kept the old one.

Thanks for the follow up

OMG Darren.... the video is excellent ! So funny !!!

I also love the name you give to your girls ! (Actually they are both in our favorite name if one day.... And Charlotte is definetly going to happen if we have a girl (we also thought about Charles if we would have a boy one day...).

I updated the stats so far but i'll wait tonight to update them online... I'm waiting for the other good news of the day :)

Hmmm i just realised... i was expecting to receive my EAD today in the mail... (would be surprising since i got another touch this morning)... we'll see :)

Thanks

If you have your EAD, and it says you can legally work. Then while you wait for your SNN number you can take on a job. I went and applied for my SSN number and he told me the exact same thing, that it could take up to 4 weeks for it to be mailed out to me, because USCIS had not entered it into their system yet. But at the end of tha appointment he handed me a piece of paper, that stated this.

"If you are not a U.S. Citizen and you are applying for a Social Security Number card for employment purposes, and your immigration status allows you to work, you may legally begin employment while you await the issuance of a Social Security Card....."

So I take this to mean that I could go out and get a job tomorow, even without my SSN in hand. And just tell the employer, that you are allowed to work, and able to work without the SSN number in your hand. That you will provide them the SNN as soon as you recieve it.

I just called USCIS. The lady was so sweet and nice and she looked up my case for me. She said my case has no RFE and she said if my case has not been approved within 70-75 days, I am allowed to call them and request for service.

So they can take a look at my case.

So if you are waiting for over 80days, definitely call them.

I had no idea how to reach the customer service, so I just went to the address change and went to customer service. I just said oh sorry, I did not know. The lady said that's ok.

Hello everyone,

I just got an envelope in the mail today 9/27/08 from USCIS National Benefits Center containing 2 identical documents which appears to be the Advance Parole :dance: with my color photo at the bottom left ofthe document. It states that I am authorized to travel abroad but under a long list of conditions... which in realirt means I should not travel at all until the GC is in hand. The reason is that I have unlawfully stayed in the US for more than 180 days :bonk: and the reason is that I could not file my AOS eventhough I got married while in legal status but my husband was not a US citizen at that time. He had to wait for 4 years until they finally approved him to become a citizen...

Anywys, I just wanted to share with you all the news and hopefully soon will get the GC.... good luck to all
