Alhamdulillah : This trend is not isolated unforunately to the French or Muslims in France. I remember watching a documentary in the 1990s about this (then) 'new' surgery that took off in Greece. They also highlighted woman in Latin America. But it seems it has infiltrated the Muslims now. Something I doubt will stop in France. It is spreading in like wildfire to Germany, Sweden and some parts of ME and Asia. In fact, Doha has been dubbed the "Re-virgin capital" of the ME.

Plus, the woman in question had a martial contract drawn up saying that she was virgin. And part of her contract stated that, in the case she was not ... the groom had right to divorce. This contract was legal in France. But lawmakers are trying to change this. My question to her, why lie then have a contract written up that saying you are virgin? Obviously, even after the operation he found out and had the marriage anulled.

Olivia : I remember in the that same 20/20 documentary in the 1990s they showed 40 year old women opting for this surgery in the US and Australia to be virgins again for their husbands. Something I just find so lame.

I remember also, seeing that Dr. 2010 show. Didn't the woman have 3 children, and wasn't her ####### area during her last birth damaged extremely ... to the point it was almost detacted from her? And causing her pain and disfuntion? If I remember correctly, then I guess her reasoning for wanting the labiaplasty operation was more legit then these "fake virgins" Labiaplasty... surprises me too, having it done for medical reasons is valid I guess. But for cosmetic reasons? Maybe people just have too much money to spend? But the larger issue is, isn't this further enforcing more stereotypes about women and their bodies? And how much of this does the porn industry play into this?

Reason being shame and more dangerously 'honor killings' But I wonder since I have not heard of such instances where there was much honor killing in NA ... why was it so important for this particular girl of NA descent to lie? Why can't they just stand out of that shadow once in Europe?

I am inclined to agree and support the good French doctor, who is fighting against this operation, when he says that hymenoplasty goes against the notions of equality. But at the same time, we should not turn our backs on women who use this surgery for fear of not being virgins is also a valid point.

What about the western women that are also doing it? They are not in any way related to islam. It's not about their religion.

For them, as I and several other said a designer cosmetic operation (like breast implants) or for some reconstructive ... I wonder how this operation could (or is) be used with rape/incest victims? Esp little children?
