HP Sauce to be made in Netherlands, not Britain

Preferred by the likes of the Royal Family, Britain's beloved "brown sauce" will soon be manufactured in the Netherlands.

U.S.-based Heinz Co. has announced that it will shut the Birmingham plant that makes HP Sauce in March 2007, throwing 125 people out of work.

The American company, which bought HP Foods last year, said the move will improve productivity.

A spokesperson for the Transport and General Workers Union called the move a "savage decision," saying they had been told the workers' jobs would be safe.

Developed in the early 1900s and first sold in 1903 under the HP brand, HP Sauce holds a Royal Warrant, meaning the product has been supplied to members of the Royal Family. The Royal Arms insignia on the bottle reads: "By Appointment ... Outfitters to HM The Queen."

Made with tamarinds, dates and spices, HP Sauce is said to named after the Houses of Parliament, where it was served in the dining room.

damn!! Who would have guessed!! First women can vote, now this! What a crazy world!! lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

well, that is kinda sacreligious, to move HP Sauce to another country, but unless I order it from Canada I can't get it here in the US anyhow (stupid considering its now owned by a US company? :P )

There's plenty of brown sauce in the UK. The Queen will just have to switch brands. ;)

its tricky moving food over with you. Depending how you're moving and if you get inspected it may likely be confiscated. New FDA laws are overly restrictive IMO :P However, my Mum was able to bring me a few things last year when she visited. They gave her a hassle about not having a passport, but didn't inspect her luggage.

I order stuff from a website called CanadianFavourites.com. Shipping is a bit pricey, but when I'm craving those Shreddies, its well worth it ;)
