I ordered Women of Sand & Myrrh today.

My boss is totally out of line today. I have a question...what constitutues sexual harrassment? I'm serious...I think he did and I'm a little nose bent out of shape over this. Ok..he took me in his office, shut the door, to tell me that being 2 foot short on a job was UNEXCEPTABLE and omg on and on how his dad started the company 35 years ago..blah blah and he don't want to see it ran into the ground..and then he says.....'Jackie you are looking better and losing weight... after that I didn't hear much of anything. What does that have to do with anything?

Am I overreacting? Maybe I am. He wasn't hitting on me...he was reprimanding me for making mistakes. grrrrrrrrrr men. Ibrahim should be glad to be 6,000 miles away, men are on my shitlist today.

Awesome you got the book! Honestly it's so easy and quick to read I may be done with it as early as tomorrow.

As far as the boss goes I wasn't there and I don't know the relationship between you two. From an outsiders perspective it doesn't seem like he did anything wrong but instead paid you a compliment. P.S. Bosses get to reprimand employees that's why they're the boss. lol

It's ok that he reprimanded me...I had it coming...and was taking it well, but when he got to my weight and apprearance, I think that is when we crossed some lines.

It wasn't given as a compliment, it was more like 'why you looking better and still making mistakes?' Like one had something to do with the other....he certainly would not have said something so inane to one of the men here. That is why I am even ruffled over this. I usually get treated like one of the guys.

Youre right. Im overracting. He has alot on his plate these days with business being slower with the economy. I am telling my HR lady that I will NOT be taken into a small office by him again with the door closed. That is just not gonna happen.

i don't think that's sexual harassment, i think if anything he's trying to pay you a compliment with that, attempting to take the sting out of the reprimand.

I don't think it's sexual harassment neither. But still icky nonetheless. Smart decision to inform HR that it's not acceptable to go in alone and with door shut (especially if no one else can see inside). While it MAY have been intended to take the "sting out" -- just silly really. Our culture sometimes has the "sandwich" effect. Just like a sandwich (two pieces of bread outside of the meat): One positive, then a negative, then a positive to make the "sandwich" easier to swallow.

Ethnography is a division of cultural anthropology. I thought of it because you said you had a degree in Anthropology, right? Anyway it's the study of current cultures by observation/emmersion. So, like, you go over there and live with them and see what all they do. There are rules and regulations and whatnot, and you usually have to maintain a kind of distance which is what really complicates things-- as in some cultures that means you don't really get an accurate picture because you are not an insider. I juat laugh at the link above because I showed it to Dh one day and he said he remembered her and that one of those kids was him LOL.
