About 30 people gathered for a regional revival Friday night that included a book burning as a statement to reach out to local residents.

"It is allowed for Harry Potter to be taught in our schools, but not the Bible," International House of Prayer pastor James Crawford said during the Shreveport Regional Unity of Faith Revival.

That is one reason pastors from several denominations and races ripped pages from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Those and pages from a pornographic magazine were put into a burn pit and set afire as praises bellowed from the congregation.

"As I tore the pages, I felt a generational curse of immorality and perversion breaking off my family," Adriane Banks said. "I felt it."

The book burning was a statement to reach out to people in Shreveport-Bossier City against sin, Crawford said.

"This is powerful. God looks down and sees humble hearts. That is the reality of what we're doing."

Crawford said recent natural disasters are a wake-up call.

The ministers also have been fasting for three days and have monthly revival meetings.

"We need healing. We've got pornography, abortion, murder, violence on the rise in Shreveport," Crawford said. "The focus is making sure we can do everything e can for our city as ministers."

"I am not a doom and gloom preacher, I am a truth seeker. But we are at the threshold of dark days," Crawford told the congregation.

The book burning and revival also marked the meeting of a diverse group of ministers, including Elliot McPhatter, of Total Deliverance Church, Young Doo Kim, of the Shreveport-Bossier Presbyterian Church, and John Valdez, of Bossier City Four Square Church.

"We are not concerned with the cultural standard. This standard keeps our congregation holy and our city clean. ...," Valdez said. "We have a supernatural enemy, and we need to be unified to fight. ... We have the same mission."

What's the big deal? It's only books.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Yep, fundamentalism is alive and well in the South - and it is pretty scary. It is a mindset that finds fear everywhere, and any 'idea' that the Church can't control must be destroyed. This is a Christianity far alien to anything I ever experienced, but one in which my husband was raised - and one from which he fought to break away.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Physically sure. But there's an idea behind the act.

Ever read Fahrenheit 451?

I should organize a bible-burning..... they're only books.....

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Face it, a lot of you can make fun of them burning books, but they have a point. I mean why in the world would any school or teacher use a Harry Potter book to teach in a school is beyond reason, I would be seriously upset if my kid was getting that, it is school not romper room play time! What a waste of taxpayer money! Porn is for adults not kids, and it is not a thing that is really good for anyone that is truly normal and of sound mind. Why can't these people protest, every other radical far left out of touch weirdo is allowed to do this in the USA, so why not these people! We mock what we do not understand. :star:

Who is "teaching from" Harry Potter? Surely thats not something to take at face value without having a little more context...

Moreover I didn't see anyone stopping these guys from doing this - indeed the article doesn't say they were stopped, does it? They exercised their rights - just as people are exercising their rights to say what they think about it.

I get their point - they're afraid of what they don't understand. If they weren't - they wouldn't burn books. F*cking idiots.

I imagine that the way Harry Potter is being 'taught' in schools is not the same as they'd wish for the bible to be 'taught' in schools. I assume that Harry Potter is treated as fiction, not fact, and is either kept to story-time for the younger children or perhaps discussed as a work of literature in English Lit classes.

Yes, porn is for adults and not children - and I do not see anywhere in the article that it states that porn is being shown or given to children. As for it not being for adults that are truly normal and of 'sound mind', all I can say is that there must be millions of men and women in the US who are abnormal, then. :P
