$6.00 to use AP

Hi I am wondering if i really have to pay 6.00 every time i renter the USA We came back from canada and drove threw customs i gave both AP's and we went inside after about 15 minutes i was called up and was told that will be 6 $ we said for what and they said for the I-94 they stapled to my copy of the AP. I never knew we had to pay to use AP. anyone else have this experiance?

I had to pay the $6 for the first I-94. Some people haven't had to pay anything. The rest are all free if you use the AP again.

thanks all, they said i would have to come in every time to get a new I-94 and pay ,i told them they will be seeing a lot of me then , one more question ... do i leave the I-94 stapled to my AP next time i come back or should i remove it before hand?

You could post this in the canadian regional section. Maybe there are some POEs that don't usually charge. At least it's only $6, but you paid for the AP already for goodness sakes.

The I-94 is an entrance/exit visa - it is your authorization to show that you were inspected upon entry and allowed into the country. It states how long you are allowed to remain in the country on that 'authorization'. If you travel by air, the I-94 fee is included in your travel/flight fees regardless of what country you come from. If you cross from Canada to the US at a land border then you pay for the I-94, whether you are a Canadian requiring one or someone from another country (ie. Britain, etc.). Most Canadians entering the US as visitors do not get the I-94 due to that special visa exempt status Canadians enjoy. If you are entering the US under another provision, then you require an I-94. If you are anyone other than a Canadian 'visitor' entering at a land border - even from a visa exempt country (for example, Britain) - you also get an I-94 at the border.

The $6 is NOT for the AP - it is for the I-94. No, do not remove the I-94. Leave it in your passport. If you are called for an interview on the AOS they will remove the most recent I-94 from your passport. If you are approved without an interview, then you have a souvenir of your last entrance to the US. Technically, each time you exit and re-enter the US you should have the old I-94 removed (although this doesn't always happen) and you should receive a new I-94 when you re-enter as you are entering under a specific immigration process - a 'parole' - and not as a Canadian visitor.

I used my AP last month..and received a new I-94(my daughter too) we weren't charged a fee. We crossed at the Peace Bridge(buffalo) We're travelling again in 2 weeks..I'll be prepared just in case(I had never heard of this until this thread!)

I wasn't charged at Vancouver airport last week (POE is AT the airport). I had the cash ready but the officer laughed and said "oh we're not gonna charge you anything Honey". So it unclear to me whether that is standard or not!!!! It was the most casual, funny and sarcastic group of officers ever. It took five minutes.
