I agree that if you marry someone and receive a greencard then the law should not allow you to bring anyone for marriage for a long period of time or even better change the conditional greencard to 3 years. If after 3 years you are still married then you can apply for citizenship but if you are not still married then you have to wait like 10 years for LPR status.

1. It is not just Africans. It happens all across the spectrum. And it is not men seeking American men, it is also women seeking American men. Even American men/women will marry another American to gain status.

2. While it is illegal, it happens. Why do you think the immigration process has been such a nightmare for so many people on here. There are several horror stories on here. Even so, when someone is determined to do something, they will do just about anything to achieve it. The fact that this is more likely to happen with certain countries is what makes it so difficult for those of us to get visas even if our relationship is genuine. These are the measures taken to try and discourage fraud but there is always someone willing to defeat the system.

3. I agree that it is unfair to the USC who is caught up in all this, but that is the risk you take. Some people are soooo wrapped up in being in love that they do not take off their blinders and see the real picture. Sometimes, people rush into the marriage, file the paperwork and by the time they realize what is going on it is too late. Maybe they are swept away by sweet words, the promise of a good life, how they are going to be treated like a queen/king. I don't know. What did the USC do to make sure that their SO's feelings were genuine? Were there any red flags the USC saw but chose to ignore because "they were in love"?

Only because American women are rather stupid, and go off on some romantic tangent to outback of Africa thinking they found true love and not doing a thorough background check of their African mate, it is the American woman's fault- they open themselves up to this as being a perfect target for this marriage scam, I mean open your eyes and realize what could be going on, you ever been to Africa and seen what a seasepool it is? Everyone there is desperate and more than likely a scam artist, and believe me they do not care about Americans, they truly think and feel so what, you can afford it you are an American with lots of money. Twenty years before now the intercontinental or interracial romance was in a cordial mood until some unscrupulously opportunist came to flagrantly abuse it. Like the situation of Adam and eve in the Garden of Eden.

In culmination this has given birth to a prevailing traditional perception amongst European and American women.

Consequently, the good and innocent ones amongst us have to share this overwhelming humiliation.

Apparently the situation now is a clear depict of this phrase. “The good ones have spoilt the way for the bad ones”...

What I trying to say here is……….Today it’s so hard for an American or European woman to accept the amorous advances of an African man, basically because she assumes it all about “Marriage for green card or Marriage for permanent resident”. as the case may be.

Well, I would have thought the same way if I was to be in their shoes. Notwithstanding it is unseemly to think that all African men are the same. There are some very good African men out there with sincere hearts.

The truth is, we all know that majority of the African countries are under developed with an awfully bad economy which invariably makes the populace so much desperate to migrate to countries overseas.

In the quest of wanting a “Permanent resident or green card”. Personally I don’t think there is anything wrong for an African man to intentionally marry an American or European woman to eventually have his Papers(Green card or whatever) provided they both make each other happy. She gives him his stay and he loves her forever. My point exactly is- make sure your intentions are good. Let it be for real. I.e. No Jilt, No deceptions.

But some unscrupulous Africans, as soon as they get their stay, they are soon to dump or divorce their victims.

It is no wonder therefore that, the prevailing traditional perception will ever hold sway in the minds of most American and European women. It’s a dilemma we African men must have to face if you so much desire to marry an American or European woman.

I honestly dont support men whom pre-conceively use american/european women as ticket to greencard.Its very Bad and very sad indeed.

I wish this could be a crime purnishable under the law.

I don't think it's fair to blame women, there are men who get used too. This can happen to anyone in any culture and I agree that you have to go into any relationship with open eyes. When I met my fiance I was a Peace Corp volunteer at his school and we got to know eachother as friends first and when we started dating I asked one of my good friends (she's like a big sister to me) what his reputation in the village was and i trusted that if she had any reservations she would have told me and I extened my service for an extra year for among other reasons to make sure we both had adequate time to get to know eachother and had an understanding of each others expectations.
