What do you think should be done about this?? Unfortunately, this happens from all over the world. Not just the Africans.........

women have married men forever for money or social status and in the US women have all the advantages in the courts. If he comes here and she has children he will be obligated to pay child support for those children.

It's neither about the courts nor about the money - children need more than that; they need two parents to raise them.

Well said.

A man that would use a woman fir a green card is not the type that would be setting a good example for childern. Some people have low morals and this is one example of that. They use whatever means they can to get what they want. They lie and take from others. Unfortunately during the brief courtships many have those bad traits go undiscovered. Maybe the solution would be to change the laws so that if you come here on a marriage based visa you can't get dovirced and use a marriage based visa to bring someone from "back home" for a long time , maybe 20 years. That would slow them down.

Why does anyone do it period?? No morals, some people are ok with doing awful things to reach the goals that they have, but my question is..........Why do you only care about the women being used, it happens to plenty of men as well. I think it should be "Why do people use Americans for marriage" . You have pin pointed 1 country and 1 sex when it is many countries and all americans.

Uneedme33,

To address a few things from your post...

1. You're right it is illegal. If a person is married he or she can not marry someone else; let alone get a fiance visa or immigrate to the US as a spouse.

2. What can someone do about it? Get the law involved. Gather evidence of the 1st marriage. Call the local police dept. Call immigration. The legal process in the US is slow. It will probably be a very longtime before anything happens, if it happens.

3. What can be done to prevent this? Women (and men) need to make more informed choices about who they marry. Its impossible to know EVERYTHING about a person. But you also know when there are important things that you didn't even bother to learn or ask about. Its a balance of trusting someone, trusting your intuition, and using common sense. And even after all of that things may not be what they seem. I think how a woman moves forward is based on her perception of the situation, it can be optimistic or pessimistic. She may say, "this was a bad situation with this particular man". Or she man say, Well, you know African men...."

4. Not knowing if the friends you were talking about met their guy outside of the US or while they were already here. Assuming they are in the US, if they are serious enough to talk about marriage, they're serious enough to talk about immigration. Look at someone's green card and the expiration date. Do they have a green card??? Are they on a student visa ,work visa, Etc. In my opinion, a talk like this is like looking into someone's financial situation. Its important and it should be done before marriage.

Unless they're both gay....

I think it's not all USCIS fault. The people involved should get to know each other before they marry and sponsor.I think people should take more personal responsability in this situations.

But, seriously, uneedme33.... do they use American women for marriage and have babies with them and then after the 2 year wait they bring their spouse over here? Or do they use American women for marriage and have babies with them and then after the 2 year wait they bring their spouse over here? (Edited to remove the 3rd and 4th and 5th instances of asking whether they use American women for marriage and have babies with them and then after the 2 year wait they bring their spouse over here.) :hehe:
