Passport name change

Does my wife need to change her last name to mine in her Ukrainian passport before coming to the USA?

I think it depends on what name you used on your I-130. If you put her maiden name on the I-130 paperwork then no you do not need to change her name on her passport. If you put her married name, with your last name, on the paperwork then yes, change her name on her passport. The names on the paperwork and passport should match. I think.

This is why we put my wifes maiden name on all of the paperwork, and we are not changing her name in her passport yet. My wife is from Peru but now lives in Buenos Aires. The consulate of Peru in Buenos Aires said that it would take 8 months to change her name in her passport going through the Consulate in Buenos Aires. So we just decided that we would wait and change everything when she is in the United States.

I changed my name and sent my passport in with it.. but it's my husband who is the beneficiary and they can match up my SS number if necessary. I made extra copies of my passport pages so i have my stamps in case i have a new passport. I think any ties to show we are indeed a couple is helpful... I have his last name.

I have a similar question.. my wife wants to go ahead and change her name, adding my Surname.

We didn't do it right away thinking it would f up paperwork, but since it may take 2048204 years before they process our year old application, maybe she can go ahead and do it.

She'll basicall have her same name (she doesn't have a "surname" technically anyway) with my surname jammed on the end.

Will this create and extra 2243 year delay?

Hi HOHO,

I am from indonesia also, mostly we dont use family name , as my husband's info, we can change before we get Green card , mean when the benefficiary is in USA, we can request them to put husband's surname.

I am willing to try this. but so far I dont want to change all my paper work . I will stay in my original name.
