US Gasoline Pump Prices Poised To Catch Up With Crude Boom - $6/gallon is coming...

No, it will not come down to the pre-bubble price because of the demand from China and India. But it will come down to a more reasonable level that is less than it is today. $2 gas will never be back. But $2.50 - $3.00 will be the norm soon.

Interesting. Speculators and analysts don't know what the eventual price point post-bubble will be, but you do?

The price of oil is mainly from speculators. The range that price is in now cannot be sustained. It is a bubble that will break just as the housing market bubble and the .com bubble both broke. I really doubt if we ever see $10/gallon gas.

...also, worldwide demand has shot up while the supply has reached its peak.

Part of making that bubble burst is driving down demand. Both the .com bubble as well as the housing bubble were popped that way. ;)

The rising prices will reduce demand. Econ 101. It will be a self popping bubble if things continue the way it is.

The only way to drive down demand in any meaningful way, however, is by becoming serious about conservation and developing technologies that make alternate energy sources a more significant part of the mix. Driving 20 miles less a week while gas is at or above $4.00 / gallon only to fall back into old habits once the prices relax a little isn't going to be enough. This time, we should learn the lesson that we failed to learn in the aftermath of the last energy crisis.

This is a very good alternative that I don't see a lot here. It is Natural compressed Gas and it is very popular in Brasil and Argentina. It is very clean, and believe it or not, very safe, cars involved in accidents had no problem with it. Another plus is that you can convert any car to it with just a kit. You can switch from CNG to gas if you need to.

Business at the bike shop is insane right now. People are digging out old Schwinns and Huffys from their garages, then paying us $60 to tune it up, $50 for new tires, etc. Plus we've been selling a lot of $3000-$7000 bikes the past couple of months. As for the cheapo heavy-####### bikes ($309.99) we've sold out of them 3 times already. The manufacturer has run out of them too, so we're stuck without cheapo bikes. Some people leave and go to Wal-Mart. Smart ones buy a lower-end road bike instead ($750)

Our shop (repair area) can hold about 30 bikes comfortably. We currently have 58 awaiting service or pick up. It's a little crowded back there.

Well if you figure in the exchange rate from € to $ and the litre vs. gallon, isn't that about what gas costs in Germany right now?

We saw this coming and did nothing to try and reduce our consumption. Reality bites.

Exactly.

Oh lord, those things are everywhere here. It's funny because Seattle (and the PNW) is very environmentally aware, but at the same time it's loaded with suburban SAHM whose hubbies work for MS and Boeing and they all drive Hummers and huge SUV's. To carpool their kids to soccer and dance. I don't get it.

My first purchase after we get immigration fees out of the way is a new bike. In fact, bikes for all of us. I live close enough to work to ride a bike, the only down side is the weather here. It's only bike friendly about 3 months a year, and not even that right now!

I think we need to have alternatives to being oil hungry and certainly not be dependent on other countries for our resources, such as the oil. Alongside that, and above all, people need to just be more conservative. Why do we really need SUV's anyways? Or at least make SUV's more energy efficient and not gas guzzlers.

I was reading actually that jobs in the "green sector" will be in demand. But I am wondering if the "go green" mentality that people are is not just a fad? Once the prices go back down (if tehy do....not sure if they will but remember I think gas prices are more expensive anyways in summer because more people travel in summer I think)....people will go back into their ways again of becoming crazy for gas.

There are tons of them here in Indiana. This is where they originally came from, so I suppose that has something to do with it. That and we're some of the fattest, laziest people in the country. I would say that I see at LEAST 6-7 of them per day. Our local fire department has a Hummer, the woman who owns the local branch of Carpenter Real Estate has one, and there are 3 or 4 others here in our tiny town. Indy....there are THOUSANDS of them in Indy. That's a lot of compensating for tiny penises going on....

We should put our gigantic military investment to use and occupy a whole country full of oil wells.

Oh wait.

You're looking North to Canada aren't you?
