Hopefully someone can help with this question. My SO doesn't have correspondence with his father. His father is here in the U.S. and has been for years. When filling out the DS 230 my SO was able to provide his fathers name, place of birth, birthdate but put down unknown for his address. On the DS 156 in question #37 it asks if any of the following are in the U.S. We are not sure how to handle this question. His father is here but he has no clue if he is a US citizen or if he is actually legal to be here. How should we handle this question? Can we put down his father is in the US and unknown as for his status?

It sounds like your SO doesnt really know his father...at least not personally. Does he only know of his father being in the US from heresay? If this is the case he doesnt know his father and should treat it as such on ALL documents. I would suggest you put unknown. My husband doesn't really know his father either. Yes he knows his name and town but beyond that the father is just a stranger. I would start over and just put unknown when it comes to questions about the father. I've done that on all my paperwork and it was fine. I know of a lot of other JA filers who did the same.

I would suggest that u check with the INS and give them his fathers name and DOB and see if they have a record of him and his wereabouts.
