Applying for AOS before getting my SSN? How long to get AP?

Hello everybody,

I am a bit early asking these questions, because I still have to enter the US with my K1.

But, I am planning on arriving on the 31st of august and getting married with my fiancé the very next day. We will first just go to the courthouse and wait for having a nice ceremony... We also are planning on applying for AOS/EAD/AP as soon as possible, within a week after being married. That means that we are going to gather all the needed docs before our wedding.

However, do I need to wait to get my SSN to apply for AOS/EAD/AP?? Or is this not necessary???

Another question: Do you think it could be feasible to receive my AP before december 10th if I send all the required docs before mid-september??? My fiancé and I would like to have a real ceremony in France around Xmas...

Thanks for your help and advice.

Faustine

No need to get SSN for AOS/EAD/AP. It's certainly feasible to have your AP for December (or even your Green Card) but there are no guarantees so I wouldn't book anything until you get either one of them in hand.

I am a long way from this stage yet, but this question has made me wonder....

I already have a social security number, as I have had two J1 summer work visas before. Do I need to get a new one when I get married?? I know I will need a new card with my new name, but will the number stay the same? I don't want to have to build credit again!

thanks

Your SSN will stay the same, once a number is issued it is yours for life.

Thanks delicious English Miffin :star:

So, if I understand well, I can apply to AOS/EP/EAD right after I get married as long as I can provide all the docs... I know I will have most of them before the marriage. I will probably just have to wait for the marriage certificate. Is this right?? And of course, make sure my medical exam is valid for AOS.. I a bit worried about that. I should have everything done by then, all the necessary shots, but the HPV vaccins... When I get married, I will be 26 and a half years old, and apparently HPV vaccination is required for women until 26... But I don't want to get this vaccination, because my doctor told me it would do nothing and it is super expensive. I called USCIS but they don't even know anything about vaccination.. Hopefully everything will be ok!!
