We bought a car 2 yrs ago and made a point of not buying a hybrid due to precisely the kind of financial analysis Rogue showed a few posts ago. But 100 mpg might change that!

Sometimes a hybrid and bicycle are not about the savings - they're about the moral superiority. In Alberta - we have very few morals - and as such very few bicycles or hybrids.

Completely. They are actively working on it now (see article below). My hubby also heard about a dude in California that did modifications to the engine that got him awesome fuel mileage and apparently Toyota bought the rights to his design.

the key words here are bolded. Once you get up to a certain speed, the gas engine kicks in. They are working on raising that level.
