Hello,

My Fiance and I just started the K-1 process and Ive read most of the posts about visits to US while the K-1 is processing and although they have been very helpful I was wondering if there were any more examples of "ties to Canada" that may help us on our first visit since applying. There is no employment letter available or any mortgage/rent. She plans to bring the K-1 package, NOA1, and her bank statements. Is this enough?

To make things easier, could you visit your fiance instead? When someone comes over the border with very little ties, it makes things more difficult. Its up to the officer at the POE whether she gets in or not.

I was actually pulled into secondary inspection twice while visiting my then fiance during the K-1 process. Along with my package of proofs (employment, bills for utilities, insurance, health claims, pets in Canada, etc.) I also carried a full copy of my K-1 application file. On one occasion while they were going through my evidence at the counter as opposed to the back room, once they got to that file, they read it, closed everything up and handed it all back to me saying I was good to go, so I think carrying a copy of your K-1 file is a good idea. Other suggestions of proof would be car insurance in Canada, children or pets still in Canada, proof appointments scheduled (Dr., dentist, etc.), any bills you have on a recurring basis, etc.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Shes not going to voluntarily give up anything unless they ask but she wants to be prepared incase they do.

Well we are meeting each others families now and I have recently been to Canada to meet hers. This was before we petitioned though.

It's very common for Canadians to visit while their visas are in process. The CBP officers knew of mine and I never had a problem. This FAQ should give you a good idea of what to expect: Visitation FAQ's.

Congratulations on starting your journey!

Thank you. I tried clicking on the link but It didnt work. thank you for the reply.
