My annual income is roughly about 20,000 a year. I am going to about $2000 below the requirement. I have tried finding a co-sponsor, but no luck. I was thinking about putting my house down as an asset. Its value is $50K, so if I remember right...you need an asset that can cover the difference (x5 for 5 years). Is that right?

So do any of you think my house should be alright? It's the only asset I own, just bought it this year too.

It's one of those passing thoughts I get daily. I am really disappointed that my family nor friends can (or want to) be co-sponsors! :/

Thanks to all who respond. :)

The last paperwork you have to send in for the NOA2 form is the I-134 and it does ask you your total assets. This might be sufficient but I am not quite sure... They should see that you have other assets besides your income. I would call and ask them just to be sure.

NOw remember they will also allow you to send the last three years of tax returns and I am sorry I can't answer much about the asset thing. :/ Is there a reason they won't joint sponsor you? Mainly the only liability they would have is if she was to file for welfare or something like that and then they would have to pay it back, but if you guys promise not to ahead of time, someone won't help? $2000 is so minimal. I hope it works out. I wonder if you called the customer service line for the USCIS if you would be able to ask them that? They can be helpful for general quesitons.

Yeah, I do plan on trying to call them when I do the paper work. Just hope I get a straight answer.

It'll be devastating if they denied us, just because I can't support him. I sure as heck know I can! Got some money saved in the bank too, but I am sure that this visa process will drain most of it. :/

What happens after the NOA2? I get the papers, send them in...then they send it off & send a packet (3?) to my fiance to fill out? Geez, I'd like to watch him try to fill this stuff out. lol

I've called them a few times in the past & only had one nice person who helped me out. I can only hope I get someone nice again.

About finding a co-sponsor here...my dad's cousin is a multi-millionaire, yet he doesn't want to because he thinks we have this big plot to rob him! My ex-coworker was going to, but something happened to his job so he doesn't make enough anymore. Another ex-coworker (was good friend, not now) thinks that I'm going to purposely get my fiance on gov aid, so he has to pay for it. I've just given up on it for now, because "family & friends" have disappointed me about the situation. :( It really upsets me.

I don't have 3 years worth of tax returns either. :( - Only got back to work in Oct 06, even at that I was only part time. I just FINALLY got a full-time job this past Jan/Feb. It looks kinda dim on my end. :/

lol, I hear you. I am not sure about how it all works. I know that the service center will send his consulate the approval, then they will notify him and send a packet of information. I am not at that point yet, but I know the next step is the interview. It is hard to have to go through all of this just to be with the person we love. I am married and I can't tell you how many people are shocked at the whole process. I can understand how the "fraudulent" marriages for help to get into the country happened so things are more difficult now, but... it makes it so much harder for those of us who truely are in love. I am pregnant and gonna deliver in ten weeks. I doubt either the immigrant or k3 visa will have went through by then and the border can't guarantee that he will be let through until that day happens. SO we have to buy all the plane tickets .. non refundable and hope he gets through... sorry not meaning to go into my whole deal... its just some days are easier than others in this "waiting game". I hope it all works out and I seriously hope you can get someone to joint sponsor with you!

Wow, I am so sorry. That has to be utterly frusterating! Sometimes this whole immigration thing is overwhelming. I seriously hope it all works out for you!

It's okay! We all need to vent sometimes. I vent about this to a few people in person & they're like "whaaaat?"

We have a 2 year old daughter, he's only gotten to see her a few times..so the whole deal of not seeing either of us really tears him up. We couldn't apply for the visa until this year, since it's when I finally have a decent income! It's been a long journey, full of stress & heartache. It sucks that they say you can even get denied at POE with the visa...It's like they like to leave you guessing until you finally see your honey exiting the terminal/luggage claim with a big smile on his face.

Thanks! We're constantly keeping our fingers crossed...& teaching our daughter to do the same! :P

boobah, every consulate is different so your best bet is to call/email where he'll be going for his interview to see what exactly they request from you as far as financial documentation. Do you mean that your home has $50,000 in equity that you could access if you needed? That would probably work but again, it's up to the USEM you're going through to decide. Every consulate seems to have different 'rules'.

After you are approved your petition will be sent to the NVC and from there it will be sent to the consulate your fiance will be interviewing at. They will send him a packet 3 which he needs to fill out. He'll need a medical and then he will be interviewed and hopefully receive his visa. Every consulate works differently so it's important you look through the portal page (top of the forums) and find out from others going through (London?) what exactly is required from him/you at this stage.

Also :time: It will really help others help you along the way. ;)

Much luck to you! It must be very difficult for him not to see you and your daughter every day. :(

The equity, not value of your house can be used to make up an income shortfall with three dollars (for fiance or spouse, five dollars for other family) replacing one dollar of income. A 50k value house with a 44k mortgage would cover a $2000 income shortfall.

thanks for the replies.

I am very aware that I need to call them & ask about this. But I do like learning stuff on here, so I can be more aware of what I'm talking about when I do call them...and specifically what to ask. Without any help, I'd be like "errr I need help with something, but I dont know really." on the phone.

So if my house was valued at $50K, but I bought it for $24K with the mortgage actually kicking it back up to $50K (30 years)...am I ok? I don't really know much about assets or equity, since I am very new to owning something this valuable. If I remember right, the lady at the house signing said that my equity would start building up after 5 years...does that make sense? I remember she said something about 5 years, then 20 years. o.O - And I just bought it this past January...so not sure if that makes any difference about trying to use it for this petition..

if someone knows of a link to a site that can help out more, I'd appreciate it. Im at work right now so I'll be back to check this later. Hope someone can give me more insight about this whole asset thing!

Btw, I know I ask stuff that may be answered more accurately by someone on the phone...but hey, they're closed for the weekend anyway! May as well get more of an idea while Monday slowly gets here. :P

Equity is the value minus the mortgage, so if your house is worth $50k and your mortgage is also $50k you have zero equity and your home cannot help you. If you have only a $24k mortgage then you have $26k of equity effectivley replacing $8666 in income. Time to GET savvy about these things if not already.

Can a co-sponsor be from anywhere or does he/she have to be american & residing here???

A USC or LPR living in the US. There should also be some reason to conclude the sponsor would be motivated to back you up if needed. For instance a long time friend is preferred to an aged grandparent.

pushbrk, what if you own the house and there is no mortgage? Can you use what the home is worth according to a licensed realitor?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
