Hi all I am new to the forum.

Let me tell you the problem that my fiancé and I have. We met in late August of 2007 online. In January of 2008 we decided to marry. February I sent in 129F and as of right now we are waiting for the Guangzhou Embassy to recieve it from the NVC. My problem is that I am 21 and in college and my fiancé is 29. In China they have their own forum like this called BBS or BCS. She has been on the forum for a while now and has found that a couple in a similar situation as us was denied because "the petioner was too young to support wife." While we do not know the entire circumstances of the denial, it scares both my fiancé and I. So my question is if there an age restriction and what is the point of the co-sponser if not to help support the immigrant because the petioner cannot? Thanks much.

Welcome to VJ!

I wouldn't worry too much about getting denied. Take one step at a time. In case the visa gets denied, you can still contact your senator and see if he/she can do something.

Think positive!!!!

Good luck and all the best for you and your fiancee!!!

In every difficulty lies an island of opportunity.

First, there is no US Embassy in Guangzhou. The Embassy is in Beijing. Guangzhou is a Consulate where all family based visas are dealt with.

There is no age restiction other than you must both be old enough to marry. "Too yount to support wife." doesn't make any sense. What if you're a millionaire? What you need is to have enough income or assets to qualify as sponsor or a qualified co-sponsor, as well as enough evidence the relationship is ongoing and bona fide. Those Chinese language support groups are full of misinformation.

There's some good China specifc support for you here but I suggest you check this site too.

I agree, age isn't a factor when it comes to supporting someone financially. An 18 year old can win the lottery and be financially able to support a family of like 10,000.

I understand your worry, but I just don't see the problem here. As long as you can support the fiance financially, then that's all there is to it in terms of the financial issue.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am not worried about age issue now.

On the other hand I am college student who obviously cannot support my fiancé alone. As much as I wish I was a millionaire like someone suggested, I am not. My aunt is helping me as a joint sponsor, and with her income and house that she owns, she is well above the poverty line. So will my age and requiring a joint sponsor be an issue together? I would like anyone to comment but I would prefer if anyone knew about China as I have read that they tend to be the hardest to get K-1 visas from. Thanks in advance.

China is difficult. Vietnam and the Philipines are harder.

Unless you are Chinese too, and they suspect fraud (particularly if your fiance is Fujianese) I don't see the age issue as relevant in and of itself. You'll need evidence of an ongoing bona fide relationship. The best evidence is visits. Next is evidence of ongoing regular communication. Totality of circumstances rule the day in GUZ.
