Carter's insistence on human rights in Iran led to the revolution that was more murderous than Savak, which led in turn to, led to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the Iran-Iraq War. If he's advising Obama expect the body count to soar in the Middle East and the U.S. economy to tailspin out of shock.

Comparing the U.S. to Iran is silly because although the U.S. has the firepower, we don't use a fraction of it but Iran (and the Sunnis too) have helped draq out the war and you want to have talks with a so-called weak power. Certainly, with Obama as President, Iran with have 4 to 8 years as kingmakers over the entire Persian Gulf because it's clear Obama won't anger his anti-war base. Imagine the CIA sez Iran has nukes, no one is going to believe another WMD "lie". No said Iran would rule the world but they are a regional power with a lot of oil, a revolutionary agenda, potential for nukes and no real powerful enemies except the U.S.. Posters wanting Israeli action can expect a nice mushroom cloud if pushed and it's a real crowd pleaser for the jokers here. Wonder how many will be joking afterward?

Speculation at best. We do know Carter wanted anybody but the Shah and so we got a revolutionary nation still making trouble 30 years later. The same could be said for Bush in getting rid of Saddam. Anybody but Saddam has led us to the current situation in Iraq.

Well, the current president was ineffective for the last 8, so what's your point? Or, you can argue he was effective, at squandering a budget surplus, misleading Americans into sending their children to die in a very costly war, and cutting taxes during wartime which happened only once before circa 1840. Guess it depends how you define effective.
