This is just a random rant, but as i am reading the guides in preparation for filing the K-1, I notice that it is stated that you must get a letter from your employer, confirming your employment. Also notarized statements (?..i think) regarding assets and debt. What bothers me about the whole thing, is that you have to essentially involve all these random people in your personal business, just to get the things you need. Personally, i work in an office full of busy body gossiping hags ( to put it kindly, dont get me wrong they are not all bad...) i can only guess that once i ask the HR person for a letter of employment verification for Immigration, that within a matter of time, it will spread to the other offices. Now i love my SO with all my heart and will have no problem, telling someone off, but the whole process seems so invasive. Im certain other VJ'ers have had personal experience with this. Often times, we are already dealing with the skepticism and criticism of family members and friends, when we state our intentions to be with someone from another country ( the smart comments and wisecracks) and then you have to go and involve your employer in your personal business as well. That really sucks!!!!! anyone care to comment?????

You don't have to mention it's for immigration.

Correct. There are several situations in which you need a letter of employment, not just immigration. There is no reason to tell them what it is for, its not their business.

I have found this process so invasive there is nothing that someone at some point does not want the answer to and i do mean nothing..........there are many personal things i feel is not anyones business but i give the answers anyway because i want my fiance to be here with me in the USA......the only thing that could happen that would not make it worth while would be if he is denied visa......... :)

hang in there just prepare urself that this is a process that is necessary to give u the end result ur wanting......

This process is truly invasive. But, in hindsight, knowing what I know now about the adjustment period, I am grateful they at least made me think about some things beforehand.

When I filed my K-1 I didnt get a letter from my employer, I sent in copies of my pay stubs and they accepted them and didnt ask for the letter.

Maybe things has changed and they must have it now but this is what I submitted.

I didn't tell anybody about our immigration situation because it was none of their business. I only requested a letter of employment from my employer, they asked what it was for and I said for a personal matter, end of discussion. When I went to the interview I only requested the time off as vacation. And that was it. You don't have to share your personal life with anybody if you don't want to.

Just ask them for a verification letter for employement -- point blank. Don't give them anymore info. than needed. The letter is simple:

To Whom it May Concern :

Honeychild is currently employed by XYZ corporation as an ABC title. She has worked with us for ## of years/months. If you have any questions re: her employment, please contact our HR Office at 123-456-7890.

Sincerly,

Mr. Supervisor

And if they ask what it's for. Say it's for the office of NUNYA ..... nunya damn business! :innocent:

Hang in there, girl! You know I feel your pain.

I agree that it's very invasive, but I also agree with Jomo's girl. We looked at certain things much more clearly (like how long I'd need to work more than one job until he could work, etc).

But no one needs to know why you're doing this if you don't want them to.

Withholding information in a tactful manner is important. Getting in HR's face with an unnecessarily rude/testy response to a perfectly human question is not the best way to ensure ones job security.
