The Hillary vs Obama contest.

Now that Obama has the nomination and it seems that Hillary will give up (maybe, she still hasn’t said I quit yet) I have been thinking about this remarkable year.

For several years I have seen the usual political hatred going in both directions on this board. Reps hate dems and dems hate reps. Its normal and both sides do it. But this years something different happened. The Hillary vs Obama contest has shown me a side of the dems I hadn’t thought of yet. I have seen the same vile hatred and vitriol usually reserved for the other party thrown with great abandoned at their own! I saw Hillbots spew hatred at Obama and Obamabots throw an equal amount of hatred at Hillary.

This leads me to an interesting conclusion. Dems just hate. It’s part of their nature. All this time I thought it was just because of differing political views that it was thrown at people like me but now I realize that they throw it at anyone they don’t agree with or that stands in their way of getting what they want. That is especially interesting when you consider that they bill themselves as the party of inclusion and tolerance.

I would like to thank you for opening my eyes to your true nature. It’s been a real education.

Don't try to take the high road Gary. You know very well if the Republicans had a closely contested race, it would be just as bad, if not worse.

Wake me up when the Republicans actually have a candidate that is not white or male, that has a real chance at becomming the partys nominee.

I don't have to take the high road. With the way your party conducted itself the sidewalk is the high road.

Give me one example where the two leading rep candidates threw this kind of hatred at each other. You can't. And what does race or gender have to do with anything? Bringing that up just shows me this isn't about who is best to be president. I shows me that all your side is interested in is releaving your white guilt.

If the Republicans had a Woman and or Black candidate that had similar qualifications to Reagan, you know just as well as I do, that such a candidate, would not have any chance in getting the nomination. Not because they are not qualified. Simply because they are black and/or a woman.

But then, McCain's support doesn't really come from people who really care about supporting him. It comes pretty much by default, because there are people who find him preferable to any democratic candidate. Even after he "won" the nomination, both Paul and Huckabee were polling with anywhere from 10-25%. Even some of the significant voices in the party have not supported McCain.

In the democratic party, those who really hate, are very vocal but tiny minority. Now that the race for the nomination is over, their 15 minutes of "fame" is up.

People have asked what Obama will change. Although the future remains to be seen, he and Clinton have changed the face of the American voter. Young and not so young voters who were mostly apathetic in previous races, have mobilized in support of Obama and Clinton.

Obama won not because he was black, but because he is the Anti-Bush. Bush speaks with incoherence, Obama eloquence. Bush talks about keeping the Iraq war going, Obama talks about ending it. Bush talks about economics for the rich, Obama talks about economics for everyone.

Really? How would you know? We wouldn't nominate a woman or a black? Why is that? Because we are filled with racists woman haters? Is that what you are saying?

Obama is the anti-Bush and that is why he was elected? Nope, he was nominated because he is black. If he were a white guy he would just be another junior senator. The lefts white guilt is why Obama is where he is. Your side is the racist side and this is your attempt to purge yourselves of that guilt.

Tell you what man, look in the mirror. The dems demonstrated racism and mysogamy in spades over the last 6 months. Take the log out of your own eye before you worry about the splinter in mine.

Gary, I don't know how you manage it, but you see the world in stereotypes and simplistic slogans. Dems are one person any more than Reps are. You know that McCain is different from Bush so what is your big gripe? Yes, there are people who thrive on gossip and slander and enjoy seeing their apponents wriggle and squirm. What's different about that than your trying to stir a hornets nest on these boards? Personally, I think politics in the US is a little immature in terms of how it is reported (hardly any political commentator has enough knowledge to really give these guys a grilling) and in terms of how personalities overtakes policies. However, it is what it is. If however you are way above this now then fair enough, but I have no idea what you think you are doing posting on a little inconsiquential message board with these 'I am so much better than everyone else because I am a republican' though. Talk about ridiculous, that has to be the most ridicous thing I have heard on here in a while.

Hey, I call them as I see them. This was just my observations of the dem nominating process. If you don't agree then fine. But Dan just said that reps are racist woman haters so if you want to gripe about stereotypes I suggest you point your comments to him. I was just responding in kind.

If that's what you think then fine. I am not slow to point out the ####### on both sides of the political divide. I am also aware that my opinion isn't always right but I did note some of the ####### on that thread already. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that you see things in terms of 'sides' and you are quite content to tar everyone with the same brush if you consider them 'eew, liberals'. I also can see that Steve et al do the same thing the other way at times and I find that just as annoying - and say so. Not that my annoyance (well, annoyance is a bit strong of a word, I guess irritation) is important one way or another but still.

But he is sort of right though about the race thing, isn't he?

I mean - if you want to take that view of the Democrats - then shouldn't you also be holding a candle not only to John McCain but every previous Republican presidential candidate that has ever run for the office? To my knowledge - the Republican party has not had a single racial minority or female Presidential candidate. There's clearly a reason for that - and racial or gender discrimination has to factor into that somehow. No?

Did people vote for Obama in the primaries simply because he was black? This goes back to those inane Geraldine Ferraro comments. Then, as now, I have to say I doubt it.

Now that's just plain silly, Gary. That is a broad generalization. Like if I said "Republicans have sticks up their bums and are elitist and condescending." That wouldn't be true at all.

I am one of those Democrats that you sling into that big pile of stereotypical slush. I am not a hater and in fact I quite like many of the "scary" Republicans on here, like LisaD and even you, Gary. :)

I agree there has been some freaky hatred, especially from the divided Dems on here, but please don't lump us all together. It doesn't make you look very good either when you do that.

And if you don't take back what you said then I'll start a thread about how ... oh wait, that wouldn't be very nice.

If we are all trying to be inclusive, why do dems make such a big deal out of having a "Black" or a "woman" nominee? If your eye sight is colorless why mention it?

Last I checked - race and gender were issues affecting the entire country, not just one side of the political spectrum.

If you're bothered by one party trumping up the first black or female presidential nominee you should ask yourself the elementary simple question as to why its taken so long for this to come about - rather than pouring cynicism on that party for turning it into a reality. If this is so objectionable to you - perhaps also ask yourself why it is that Republican party keeps on putting up middle-aged white men?

Yeah - its only one side of the equation that's obsessed with racism and misogyny isn't it?

What f*cking planet do you people live on?
