my first job in the US was a barista at a cafe on campus. I was an international student and went to American university. I got a BA, but I had to return to Japan after I graduated. It sucked so much because no one considered me as a college graduate. I felt horrible, but I had no money to move out, so I went to my home which was located in the middle of no where. No department stores, no nothing. I went to mr.donuts and asked if I could get a job there. Of course, they considered me as a high school graduate because I went to college in the US. I had to sell so many things to meet quota, but my manager was nice and promoted me to be a shift manager. I quit there once I got a K1visa. Now, I am in the US married my husband and waiting for EAD. I have no fulltime working experience in the US. I will probably apply places like macy's. nordstrom, disneyland, etc. Do you have any suggestions?

Well my hubby went from working as a Photojournalist in Pakistan to a crew member for Mcdonalds in London , but when he came here to the states he landed a job as a camera man/ editor for a Spanish news station. (he does not speak spanish). Its a good job but not permanent just temp. for now. This city is not good at all for job opportunitys. Wish we could move. Soon.

Hi guys,

I am not a USC. I am a wife of USC. I have been living here for 2 years. I also have been studying English for 2 years. I have a bachelor's degree ( Food Science ) from my country. I've never used my degree apply for a job because my English isn't so good. The first job was a Dietary Aid at a nursing home. Now I am working at a food concession in the park nearby my house. I will go to college in Sep. 08, try to pursue another degree ( Nursing ). Let me tell you guys, it really sucks because I have a 4 years degree, but I have to work labor jobs because of English. Sometimes I cried because I never worked labors job when I was in my country. I was a Production Supervisor and a Head of Department. Many people said, they come to the States for a better life, but I come here because I love my husband NOT for a better life. Just want to let you guys know, try to support you men or your women as much as you can because it will cheer them up and they will never give up with finding a good job or continuing their education here. Good Luck guys!!

PS. I am sorry about my poor English.

Hey,

Came here back in Fall '06, and since my husband's family owns a family business, I was working under the table for a few weeks whenever I have the time. It definitely widens my horizon working there and getting to know the different values and cultures working there builds up my character. That time really helps me to polish up my social skill as well as wise desicion making while I was waiting for my GC.

GC arrived at about Spring '07, and I was aggressive to look for a job. With lots of prayers and believing big, I am thankful to land myself with a job with the environmental department here in NC which is in line with my environmental science degree from my home country.

It took me about 2 long months and in those 2 months I've gotten a lot of other entry level jobs interview and offer.

Even though there were a lot of times I felt desperate to settle for less, I am glad I made the choice to persevere and waited for the right job.

I have been with the same job ever since, and everyday is a discovery~
