I think this was posted already. As sad as it is the law still has to be followed. They had ample access to the legal system to make their case and lost. Laws can't be bent for each case or eventually you have no law at all.

Agreed! I don't know why some people don't get that point that we have laws for a reason.

And why should the fact he gets good grades have ANY bearing on the case? Does it suck for him? Ya. But why should the fact he gets a 4.0 vs a 2.0 matter when deciding upon immigration issues??? Considering he was deported as a minor, can he apply for a student visa to college?

I'm kind of wondering where are the cadres of "compassion and empathy" illegal alien cheerleading squad members that usually pipe in whenever these stories appear?

I guess Armenians aren't "brown" enough to get them cranked up into a frenzy of indignation and outrage. ;)

Read the article thoroughly, people.

These people entered the country legally. What this reads like to me is a case of persons who possibly filed for permanent residency under refugee status and were subsequently denied. If you read what happened to them in their country, I have no idea why those petitions would have been denied, but they were. If you want to call that our 'law' and sleep happily in your beds at night as a united family, then IMO you have no real appreciation for the fortuitousness of your circumstances.

This is not a clear cut case of people who have tried to abuse our immigration system but rather an example of the system gone bad. I would think you would be outraged rather than raise up the flag of self-righteousness.

I agree with you Rebeccajo, as I read the article in its entirety. It seems really unfair they went about it the right way to be legal but the system failed them . Hopefully with the media attention to the case things will work out in the family's favor. I vote for the family to be given the right to stay in the US!!!!!

They arrived in the United States in 1995 on six-month tourist visas, according to Virginia Kice, a public information officer with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The family settled in Fresno, where Mkoian worked as a truck driver and his wife worked in a jewelry store. They set about living their lives, which soon included a younger brother for Arthur.

But after the visas expired, the family's application to remain in the United States was denied. In 2002, an immigration judge ruled that they had no legal basis to remain in the country, Kice said.

Yes...I read the story. They came here as tourists and set up shop here illegally in violation of their "tourist" visa. A tourist visa is not a license to immigrate. They lied to come here as tourists and immigrated instead. Their asylum case had no merit. They had their due process in a US court of law and their claim had no merit. They are being deported back "home".

Immigration to the USA is a priviledge...not a right. I can sleep at night just fine.

My relatives live in the former USSR. While it may or may not be as wonderful of a life as we have here in the USA, they survive just fine over there. The answer to the world's problems is not to let everyone come to the USA "to get a better life".

Considering some of the conversations going on here in VJ lately, this statement is HIGHLY ironic.

there are allot of heartless chopf##ks on vj ..

No kidding.

... always pushing for people to be kept in the US instead of sending them back to their home country ...

I've been here all along but I honestly got tired of reading "stupid" comments that lead to nowhereland. I choose not to waste my time.

By the way... I'm as white as vanilla ice cream and was an illegal alien. What does being "brown" have to do with getting cranked up into a frenzy of indignation and outrage? See, one stupid comment after the next and that's why I don't bother anymore. I'm too cool for that.
