Hi there,

I appreciate that the question of transferring money to the US has been asked over and over, but I haven't found this specific question anywhere, forgive me if it has already been asked;

I am currently living in the US, and have a bank account here, I am originally from the Uk and still have an active bank account there.

I am hoping to transfer a sizeable amount of money (£20k+), from my Uk bank account to my US bank account in the next week or so.( they are not international branches of the same bank)

, and was hoping to do a straightforward bank to bank transfer as opposed to using a third party.

My question is, will I need to be physically present in the Uk in order to submit the transfer form with signature(not really possible at this time)?, or will I be able to fax a signed form to my Uk bank? , or would it even be possible to make the transfer using online banking?

or should I forget the whole bank transfer issue and look at a different method, the exchange rate and fees of course are important, but right now the most important issue for me is finding a method to do this without having to fly back to the Uk.

Any help would be most appreciated

Thankyou

Sarah

Not with Customhouse.com I send $$ to my Canadian bank from my USA bank acct, and from my CDn acct to my USA acct. Everything is completed electronically

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Can't you arrange to write yourself a UK check and pay it into your US bank. Speak to your US bank and see what the possibilities are.

I do this to my UK bank with a US check so I dont see there is a difference.

depending on the bank, they wil charge you fees to deposit a foreign check!! i could always deposit a Canadian check at Wachovia, which was a true hassle, as many tellers had no clue what to do with a foreign check. As well the exchange rate wasn't that good.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!! Honestly, I can't stress this enough. American banks DO NOT KNOW how to handle international currency. This post, and a couple of the others, will give you a good idea of some of the problems you'll encounter. I finally received my replacement cheque last week..... 1.5 years after it first started, and many many angry words and phonecalls. Not worth it. :angry:Here's another one. There are many many more. DON'T DO IT!!!!! At a minimum, their service fees are outrageous.
