He can't really pick her. Lets face it, there are a lot of people that don't like Hillary. There are also a lot of people that don't like Obama. While a good number of both of them will go ahead and vote for a Obama/Clinton ticket the negatives will drive his support down rather than up. But more than that Obama would have to share power with both Hillary and Bill. I don't see how he can maintain any legitimacy and do that.

And as if hell was about to freeze over, here Gary and I agree. I've said this time and again, Hillary as second fiddle would be a stretch. However, it's a stretch that pales in comparison to Bill in the role of spouse to the second fiddle. That is just going to be impossible. Obama can win with Hillary's support off the ticket. She can negotiate a good deal with the party to further her career on a different route. And I say this is exactly where this is headed.

I said that Hillary will call it quits before the week is out. Gary said she'll hang in. I will be right and he'll have to tear that foot out of his mouth on that count. Now, in terms of Veep, I don't see an Obama / Clinton ticket. This is a separate issue on which I happen to agree with Gary. On that one, we'll both be right.

I can't see Hillary quitting. I see her lurking in the shadows until the convention where she hopes that she'll be "vindicated". After all, the nomination was "stolen" from her by a "sexist", "inadequate", black man.

The Clinton campaign issued a statement at around 9pm saying they will be hosting an event to announce her support for Sen. Obama on Saturday, as opposed to Friday:

Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, DC to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity. This event will be held on Saturday to accommodate more of Senator Clinton's supporters who want to attend.

Just because some of her supporters wish her to do that, doesn't mean she has any intention of doing it. If however they donate money because they want her to do that, then surely that is their money being spent in the way they intended, regardless of how wasteful I might think that is?

I simply can't bring myself to believe that she will do anything so absurd at this stage. Still, this is American politics and I'll never say never.

PH - she's said to her supporters that she would take this all the way to the Convention - it's not some wild notion they concocted all their own. In any case, they must know now that she's planning on conceding by Saturday...although she's been very cautious about being definite with her decision.

Are you going to keep worrying at this? Honestly, I don't have the energy for it. Until she signals that she really will continue this beyond the weekend, I have nothing further to say. I admire her energy and capacity for work and the fact that she wants to create a national health care system that is inclusive to all. It's not some whim she dreamt up yesterday either, she's wanted this for more than a decade. That is a definine commitment to a cause rather than some self agrandiosement.

ehem...they were planted there by her own campaign. Where have you been?
