New sub-forum: Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas

And the discussion of these issues in the general forum is educational for all.

IMO, the further we segregate information, the harder it is for everyone to learn about the process.

The only purpose I see this subforum serving is keeping the marriage visa adjustees from attacking people who are adjusting from another visa type with wrongful allegations of fraud. And that's doing people no good either IMO, because people need to realize that you can adjust from another visa type without it being an illegal immigration act.

I must admit I agree with the above, especially with the last idea.

Ahhh, I see the problem. I was a little confused there for a while. The original intent of the request was so people who come to VJ asking questions that are non family-based visa related would at least be able to see some of their questions addressed rather than being told to go elsewhere or given entirely unhelpful advice. I think it should be moved out of the AOS forum as a subset and set up as a forum in its own entity such as the K-1, K-3, CR-1, DCF visa types are. Where, I don't know, because there really isn't a general heading it fits under. Maybe change the wording of General Family Based Immigration Topics to remove "Family Based" and it could go there? post-21394-1212682683.gif

In any event, I don't think it's a bad thing. In fact, I'm sure it will become quite useful because we really do get a lot of those type questions.

You know, some things just don't need to be as hard as people make them out to be.

We keep sub-dividing this place. No one can find anything.

The Regional Forums is where people seem to think they need to go for information on consulates. Why? Because people within those forums insist on posting an occasional question there, and then they get PO'd if you move it out up to the Consular Forum where it should go in the first place. IMO this behavior is making it harder and harder to find information on the interview process. While it's true each consulate is different, the general procedure for that phase of the process is vanilla. I see lots of freakish behavior about the interview now (peole can't find the solace or support they need) and IMO I am seeing more denials at the consulates than ever before. I don't know if this is because our info is so buried and spread out; if it's because people can't read and research; or if it's because membership is up.

Then we have the K1 subforum where people are supposed to discuss strictly timeline issues. Guess what? That's not happening. A lot of valuable information is lost within the 'monthly filer' threads. Yodrak once said (when the subject of the K1 subforum came up) that he thought there should just be a general "Yippee" forum where folks could post good news about NOA2's etc. I thought his idea was far better than this timeline driven monthly nonsense that's been going on for over a year now. You can't find squat around here PLUS members are creating their own data, rather than participating in data collected by the Captain.

This place is a mess.

I like the segregation topics. I don't think it's overly compartmentalized at all, if anything I am VERY thankful he created that subforum. I've had to put a thread in my signature because it was so hard finding information or anyone that adjust to F1. It's so much easier as well to help other people if you direct them to the right section.

I agree. Order is a definite relief when you're dealing with chaos. With the amount of posts here a day, good threads tend to get lost amongst the debris. I would have gone elsewhere if all the visa types were just lumped together into one forum. I've got enough clutter in my head. lol

The visa types have been segregated from Day One, as far as I know. That's not the type of 'information segregation' I'm concerned about.

Ahhh, okay. I had pictured just a basic one-forum Q&A type site from the vision I formed from your words.

Oh, heck no!

I think it's a good idea. If the Captain likes it, then I love it.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Certainly if the new forum does not draw interest or prove useful in helping then I will merge it back with this one. I was convinced to give it a try and if it does not work that is perfectly ok. Also I am completely open to changing the new forums topic or location if there is a better way to fill in the "gap" that several members described (leading to it's creation).

I agree that subdividing information is bad if it is too granular. I ussually measure that by how many posts a forum gets (or if it thins out others unneccesarily).

I am (taking owenership as you said) however I always want to give an opportunity for other ideas to have a fair shake. I am not opposed to trying something first before calling it a failure. If the new forum does not work that is ok, however if it helps an audience that was not able to post before and just read the site without finding help then that is good.

On a side note, here is a list of some notes for non marriage based AOS:

Other than a broken link does anyone spot any updates that could be made?

Whatever.

I haven't seen you change back anything once you've created it. No matter what havoc it wreaks. The K1 subforum and the monthly filer threads completely derails your own data collection process and you don't even deal with that. And you might as well shut down the Embassy Forum. Nobody goes there to learn anything anymore. They'd rather hang out in their own little Regional Forum.

That is a few dozen. There were about 4 times that many removed. There was clearly and overkill of forums for them so it did not make sense. It was pretty obvious since no one posted in them. Out of fairness and consideration of a group of members ideas I created the new sub forum. Both myself and them I am sure will be ok with closing it if it does not help. I understand that we disagree on certain layout issus however we can probably both agree that the best layout is the one that is most accessable and useful for the greater community. I am never sure up front what that may be but by making small changes and (to a degree) using a but of trial and error we can work towards that (ever changing goal).
