But a public figure should (and will) hear from their constituents - good or bad.

There is a difference between bringing up criticisms of how they are representing their constituency and letting loose with what I consider disgusting personal attacks.

It would be classy if the Clinton camp could make a statement denouncing such behavior. It would surprise me less though if McCain's camp did it. Seems his camp is better at saying hey, things are out of line.

Well you know, putting up with racist tirades is now part of any politician's public service requirements.

apparently!

It must be put on any politician's job description.

However regrettable this is, I think the likes of Clyburn are undoubtably fuelling a currently sensitive issue. Given a few days to calm down after the disappointment, I think it's highly likely these incidents will decrease to non significant levels. Were Dems in general and Barack supporters in particular to not pour salt into fresh wounds the Hillary supporters would likely shift over to Barack. Clearly the winners in this media fuelled 'hate fest' are the Republicans.

Personally I believe those who are truly bitter are in a very small minority and even these could probably be won over (should they be Dem party members) were there to be a little more respect shown to Hillary and less of the 'she is an evil ######, see, this blah blah blah proves it'.

That's not to say that were the shoe on the other foot Clinton supporters would be any less vitriolic in victory. It does seem these antics are part and parcel of the American political scene, at least at this point in time that appears true.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

There is much logic here.

It could all just be Reps trying to pass off as Dems. Wouldn't be the first time nor the last time they'd try to be that sleazy. Lets see if that racist bitterness decreases. Lets hope so.

This country *IS* racially divided. Always hss been and sadly, always will be to a point. You cannot gloss over that. And it will be brought up again & again by Reps.

Im not snickering! Im more sad than anything. To watch the ppl of a party get so desperate for a win, based on animosity from the past is very very sad. If you love the "change" ideals lets just watch here how Obama does with bringing Clinton voters into the mix. I gaurantee it will be contrived via some backroom deal just like usual.

Of course it is Dev. That doesn't mean that we can't try to overcome it. Otherwise you wouldn't have race as an issue and we'd have had an African American as President a long time ago.

This type of hate based activity is something that all Americans should condemn with one voice. It is completely understandable to express concern or question the Representatives rational for supporting Sen. Obama, but the rest is savage uncivilized activity that destroys the fiber of what being an American is all about.
